Small idle clip before the truck leaves tomorrow for paint

Hopefully if weather permits tomorrow afternoon the truck will be leaving to go to the paintshop. Should have it back by Monday if everything goes smoothly. All the prep work has been done, so its just going for a booth appointment. I'm getting anxious to drive this thing, the motors been running for a few weeks now. Just on and off the lift a few times...

what did it run to get those heads ported if you dont mind me asking.

Porting the intake side and porting and polishing the exhaust sides runs 500.00 from a local guy that we use. He does awesome work...

Did you get different headers? I was looking at all your pictures in your photobucket account. It looks like the driver side header is further away from the oil filter.

they are the schonfeld headers just modified. I cut both flanges off and reangled them, driver and pass side. The driverside was originally hitting my oil filter on the fbody pan and it was also hitting the stock shift linkage. The Pass side was fine till I put the 4l70e in then it was hitting the servos, so it got moved too.

Damn--just noticed--799 heads. Effin nice! :thumb: Those are undoubtedly the best truck heads GM made...for the Gen III motors.

Just some FYI the 799 heads are the same as the 243 heads...Just a different casting number. I think the 243s were made up north and the 799s were cast in Mexico....So they are Mexicans

799s were the prototypes for the 243s. The casting is a slight bit more rough from the factory (backing up your thought that they were made in Mexico :lol:) than the 243s. The 799s actually work better for truck applications cause they provide better lower rpm torque than the 243s.

Sorry tyler, they are the same with the exception of the casting #. There are tons of posts on the vette forums about people having a 243 on one side and a 799 on the other. They actually got through to GM employee X and verified they are indeed the same...ha
