will this work on my 2000 silverado 2500 or does it only work on the 1500
What are you trying to do?
If you use a 1500 key on a 2500, you can get lift. 2500 key on a 1500, and you get drop.
just level the truck out to fit 285/75r16 and get good stance without spending alot of money any other ideas
I would do the 1500 keys.
will it mess with how much wight i can put in the truck
You can put ford keys in a 2500. My friend has them in his cranked up 2" with aftermarket shocks and it rides fine.
I have a set of 1998 Chevy S10 4x4 keys that have never been installed sitting in my garage. If you think they would work, shoot me an offer and Ill ship them out. These were originally going to lower the truck, but you might be able to flip them.
any one know if s10 torsion keys will work
Ill take a picture of them and post them when I get to the house around 5PM
ok sounds good
They might but you wont get the amount of lift you want out of them. They are just stock keys, and the ford keys are designed to crank higher than stock and most aftermarket torsion keys. They are around 60$ New at the ford dealers.
1500/2500 swap does the same as the ferd keys. They are each clocked different in respect to the TB orientation, thus allowing more or less torsion, leading to lift or drop.
I don't agree that they don't affect ride quality, because either way they do. Maybe minimal, and acceptable to some, but I hated it in my dropped truck.
:twocents:
Of course they affect ride quality, they ride like crap most of the time lol. Bilstein does make a shock specially made for our trucks with ford keys though and if you arent cranked to the sky it rides a lot better than any other aftermarket shock with keys. A lot of guys on fullsize run them and love them. The 1500 Keys are the same as ford keys in a 2500 though? I thought the ford keys are clocked way more than the stock 1500 keys though? Maybe Im wrong I dont know , Ive compared the two and they seem different:confused:
It was about 2" either way, up or down.
thanks bud but i think im gona go with ford keys and longer shocks sorry for making ya take pics
Not a problem at all. If the ford ones dont work for you, let me know. Ill just charge you shipping. They are just collecting dust in my garage.
sounds good ill stay in touch
I want to do the same on my 1500, will the f150 keys help to level out and clear 285/75/16s?
Hillbilly: Kinda late but have you already turned your stock keys? You just replace them if you need to keep going higher.
GT killer mine is a 2000 with ford keys and running 285/75/16 just to give you an idea, but again you can just turn the ones you have too.
I agree with aggie if you don't have enough lift with your stock keys the s10 ones won't work. They look just like my stock keys. The ford keys have the hex shape turned a little more.
I cranked my ford keys up 3", Bad idea....If you have to go really high Id run Rough country Bars and Ford Keys and Crank up 2" and the bars will give you an inch. I forgot to mention those
thanks for all the info im gona be runing the ford keys so i can get the 285/75r16 so if i get the rough counrty bars ill get a total of 3 inchs
Yup!
was looking for torsion bars online couldent were did u get yours
They are on rough Countrys website. The part # is somewhere I dont remember. Its easier to call them and order it. They are Rough Country bars for OBS Trucks
thanks:doofus:
dude. jus get the F150 torsion keys. crank it two inches and done. ive NEVER heard ANYONE using s10 keys at a fullsize bro! listen to aggie. he knows what hes talkin about.
Well I bought the Ford keys and ordered the Bilstein shock Part #BE5-C153-HO. The Ford keys were $70 each, (not $70 for the pair) from the ford dealer. BUT before I put the keys on I got out the tape measure and did a little testing, this is what I found:
1. With one shock disconnected and the other factory shock still on (03 Z71), I put the vehicle on the lift. The side with no shock dropped 3/4" farther then the other, so the shock IS the limiting factor in the suspension. People often say it's not the shock and the suspension design is what stops the droop, but in my case it is definitely the shock.
2. I cranked the stock keys all the way in and the bolt bottomed out before the key did, so I got a longer bolt (M12x85mm- I have the part number if anyone needs it @ $1.85ea) and bottomed out the stock key, then backed it out 2 turns to leave some adjustability for alignment purposes. When I put the truck back on i's wheels the suspension only compressed 3/4". (without the shock attached)
SO if I am at the point that the suspension only has 3/4" of drop left, I don't want to go any higher because the performance would be crap. Unless the stock torsion bar is limiting the drop (i.e.- it's past it's free floating state and now holding the suspension up- which I doubt is possible) the Ford keys would be useless!?
Has anyone else seen this?? If I'm within 3/4" of max lift possible (and still have 2 turns on the key for adjustment) the $140.00 F150 key will gain me nothing and I'm going to return them! Has anyone else had a different experience or did 2 longer bolts for under $4 do the same thing as $140 worth of F150 keys?
ok bud... i didn't even wanna finish reading all that. put in the ford keys. they do the same amount of lifts as maxing your stock keys out without having to crank on them so much. i personally would prefer that over bottoming out my stock keys. don't make it more complicated that it should be
Why? If you can get the same lift, at the same torsion bar angle- which also means the same spring rate (who cares about the key angle???), and still have room for adjustment, then what would the Ford key gain me? The key angle means nothing, it's the preload in the spring that matters.Quote:

dude you only need the ford keys IF your stock keys can't lift it to where you want it. Take mine for example my stock keys wouldn't level out my truck so I had to get them. But my shocks still had a ways to go. if you're cranked so high to have to get new shocks they don't extend far enough you are too fvcking high and its gonna ride like crap IMO. Lift it with the stock keys and see how high you can get. If you are satisfied take the ford keys back. Also whenever you lift the truck pay attention to the boots it more than three ribs are touching youre probably to high.
