What are you guys doing to save gas ?

... if anything at all ? I'm definitely lighter in the foot . I already coast up to red lights as long as I can . I see some guys dumping their trucks for Camry's or other such cars ! That's insane . I can't wait until these idiots need to haul some sheetrock or plywood or a refrigerator . Buying a car is not going to solve all of your problems which is why I drive a truck to begin with . I may try to pick up a cheap high mileage honda or the like as long as it runs good . I certainly won't get into a new car note to save gas ! That's a losing proposition unless you already needed a new car . So , will an LS1 run on 87 octane ? I don't remember the compression ratio . I've been mixing 93 and 87 at the pump to get 90 and the engine runs fine - it's a little better than the 89 octane they rip you off with . Would a Nelson dual tune really be worth it to run regular gas ? Seems like it'd take a long time to make up the $500 it costs . Any suggestions on improving mileage out there ?

just do what i do, destroy your tranny and get rides to work,lol- saves me a ton of gas!:lol:

I bought a 99 RCSB S10, 4cyl., 5 speed, with so much torque :burnrub: it's hard to keep this thing straight:LOL:. It's been years since I could put 87 octane in a vehicle:woot1:

Um...I am doing NOTHING. I still run the chit out of it just like I used to. But then again, I did a few years ago what you are thinking of doing--I got myself a 93 Accord 2 dr. Freakin 32 mpgs on the hwy baby! I was a good investment, IMO. They are starting to pick up value, so get them cheap while you can!

Hell , my 01 Regal GS gets close to that doing 60 - 65 mph . At 70 it drops to about 28 though , but such a sweet car :melissa:

I'd rather eat mac and cheese all the time than someone else's dust!:tacos::burnrub:

The GS is the Supercharged version...and you get close to 30 mpgs on the hwy? Dang. A 3.8L V6 with a mini-blower getting that kinda of mileage makes me wanna sell the Honda and get a Buick...what? Ok, the Regal GS is cool and all, but the only Buick I would drive is a GN...

What's wrong with these looks ? This is the exact car I have btw . Here's a good review of the car from a few years ago .

He claims 27 mph hwy and I'm going by my instant mileage gauge which shows an average of around 22 mpg . At 65 the instant mileage usually reads 30 32 mpg . You could get the LS which gets a bit more on the hwy . It blows my mind that the japanese car companies are bragging about 32 mpg . I'll keep my Buick , thanks .

i only drive my truck for fun, i drive a cavalier for regular driving, thing is really awesome on gas

Naw fool, I wasn't making fun at all. I do like those cars. Especially the GS. They look pretty good, but I am not into the 4 door car thing yet. Honestly, after reading your post, I went on AutoTrader and found an 01 Regal LS with 78k LOADED for about $4500. Not a bad price.

But I was going for mpgs, I would do a 1997 Honda Civic HX coupe. It has no balls, but it gets 44 hwy mpgs..

I turned the a/c down from max to normal . screw it got to stay cool dont ya

i take my gf's Toyota Yaris as much as possible. everyone around here thinks im nuts for wanting to get a TBSS but thats my goal. even if it means i have to get a lil toyota or something to hold me over i see no value in bitching about gas prices or changing my vehicle because I only drive 10 miles to work and get 18 MPG in my 6.0 rcsb truck...

Has anyone seen/done this? I can see it working to incresase octane but I'm wondering about the long term effects on the motor. IF it doesn't cause any harm, it would be cheaper...with gas about 26 cents cheaper for regular unleaded, that comes out to about $5.50 for most truck tanks. The recipe at the bottom of the page costs less than that. Again, not sure about effects on motor, though. Found it while surfin' the web.

Just don't drive around as much. Not going to get a gas saver because the cost of that car, insurance for that car, registration, inspection, gas, and maintenance are all more then what I would pay to get gas.

Im about to get a bicycle. Like a road bike. Gotta stay fit and strong for cross season

Whatever...I'll counter your remarks in order: buy a cheap used car $1k-$3k max, I now have a pleasure vehicle/multi vehicle discount; my insurance is $12 more a month now than just the TBSS alone, $80 dollars for 1 extra reg.& insp., less gas consumption w/ 4cyl. (87oct instead of 93oct.), I get parts at cost, and the MAIN REASON...I get to keep the miles off the TBSS.:hyper2:

Now that would be funny. I have the 2.2L(5ft lbs. of torque) 5spd too. I hope I don't have 4.10s.

i drive my 01 z28. it gets a hell of alot better mileage than my truck

haha well my buddy smashed my rearend, so I swapped rearends and got one with 4.10s. my rpms at 70 are RIDICULOUS with that 2.2

thats interesting, i wish i could see some long term results of using toulene or xylene. if i knew it wouldnt hurt anything i would use it. i can only buy 91 octane from the pumps around here unless i want to buy racing gas (101 octane), which is probably up to 7.00 a gallon now.

Interesting formulas . I tried the acetone thing for awhile and maybe got a slight improvement . It never seemed to hurt my engine . Gassavers.org is a forum I pop in on occasionally . Most of these guys drive subcompacts and have made just about every sacrifice they can for mileage . One guy claims 75 mpg with a Honda hybrid I think . They post their mileages on the home page . Anyway , just about every gas saving scheme or recipe has already been discussed including Stan Meyer's water powered car . This guy died at just the right time to create another oil monopoly conspiracy theory . Stan Meyer's Dune Buggy
A friend of mine is jumping onto this bandwagon and wants me to help him . Several people are apparently doing this over on gassavers but many on there debunk it . The principle basically involves cracking water and allowing the engine to pull in the hydrogen - the technique is called HHO because that 's what you're getting out of the water . Some claim 20 to 30 % increase in mileage . Who knows ? I'm going to get on there and ask them about this link you posted but you can search for it in their site yourself .
