wats up guys....one of my buddies has a single cab 07classic 5.3 chevy. Fully bolt on minus pulley his best time was a 14.0 with a 2.1 60ft...he recently installed a 3200 converter that brake stalls at 3600 at the track. Converter feels great, a little on the tight side but feels good since I've personally driven it. Yet, his best time has been a 14.0 with a 1.95 60ft with the converter. What could be wrong??
what was the mph it had to have dropped, when i did my stall i gain a better 60' but lost 3 mph in the 1/8th...give a little get a little he just needs to find a way to get the top end back
If I recall correctly, both with and without converter were 97mph...same with me, wen I was fully bolt on I hit a 13.8 at 98mph 50degree weather, with 3400 converter I hit consistent 13.5s at 98mph in hot weather.

nope, he's fully bolt on minus pulley.
well there you go a stall hurts a stock cam, you have a cam to help out that top end the stall kills out, that's why i lost my top end, i launched better but just lost a little, kind of wierd that he kept the same mph though, he needs a cam to go with that stall to help drop his times a little more
see that's what I thought as well, but another buddy of mine with same set up went from a 14.1 to a 13.6 and hitting high 1.7 60fts with stock cam...but I guess all trucks respond differently to mods...he already has the cam and springs at his house and is gonna install it this weekend.Quote:

Sounds like to me the trans is slipping under high load. Or the converter is slipping. My guess is the trans is slipping.

it's the weather and a stall will benefit a stock cam.
An 07 Classic? How many miles? How many miles on the mods? It all makes a difference. You can't expect for a truck with little to no miles on the motor and mods to run a sub 14 sec right out of the box. Yes, all vehicles are ever-so-slightly different and respond to the same mods differently--but they don't vary lot. Let his motor and PCM to get used to the mods and let it find it's set....

If he gets his tune on a Tuesday, have him drive around as much as he can before Wed so the tune can get some road time. The new tune is not going to be instantaneous---it takes a good 250-400 miles for it to get all acquainted with the new stuff. The tune has to "learn" the new components...Quote:

What? It doesn't lock up on the highway? Did you specify TC lock-up in your tune? There is no reason why it should stall that high when driving on the highway... Was it installed correctly? Did Allen set specific lock-up parameters in the tune?

how exactly do they lock up ?on the highway i can be going 70 punch it and it revs up too 5500 like its slipping .i didnt have a converter when i got my tune .i dont if im supposed too do anything about lock up parameters..help me out here im sick too my stomach.Quote:

You need a re-tune. And 5000rpms is probably slipping. Is your new stall a lock up type stall? Some stalls do not have lock up capability. You really need a re-tune if you went from a stock converter to a higher stalled one.Quote:

Shift points will change, Line pressure will change for shift firmness, Maybe some fuel and timing adjustments and LOCK UP timing.

When you mat the throttle pedal the PCM unlocks the convertor clutch and then you accelerate at the mercy of the stall convertor's STR value.
I would like to know what you call brake stall ? .... is this a TCI converter? or something else.... Pump the brakes 3 times and Get on the gas and see how high the tach reads before it starts to spin the tires... 3600 really?? Mine is a 3200 and foot brakes 2400+... goes to about 2800 under half throttle power... and I feel like mine was Very lose All motor and no power adder... On boost it seems to do pretty well ...
what i call a brake stall is when i [PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKKE] and bring it up till the tires spin c,mon lol,.26-28 i thought i already posted that.
I wouldn't be too worried about it man...I am serious--it's all in the tune. Go get a new tune and then let us know how it feels...
well i guess worrying was right it blew up this morning ,felt a few shutters and the next redlight nothing f ,it .i wonder if the tune would have made a difference if i didnt try driving it this weekend?thanks for all the help,im putting a smaller converter in this time ,i think it was tooo gig anyway,i dont think tune would have helped it in first they way it had too rev through 1-2 shifts any way .
same problem i still having with my pi vig2600, i do way better with stock stall. my 60ft's with the vig2600 is a 1.94, compare to stock a 1.87, and loosing chet loads of topend, coming out at 96mph, and with stock at 102-103mph, it's weird how these stalls work, not trying to high jack this thread,
yeh i dont know the dealbut i had all konds of issues ,and i thought i was getting a better launch though ,funny i went back and didnt even barely have posis in the rd ,must have been slipping.couldnt slow down w/o unlocking,having too rev around a corner,then what really did it in was i was in a long bend ,i had slowed down for got 1/2 around gave it a little gas it came around sideways.it was raining.scared the chit out of me .next time im going too research alitle mare b4 i do next conv.maybe a tt 2600 wont be so loose ,idk.ill keep researching.
o the stock conv.will set ya back in the seat ,were that 1 felt real sissy.even with vette servo and shift reprogrammer kit.in the old days slap a converter in and wam .loved it.well see.
