"Married" meaning running new LS computer while retaining factory guages, ac/heat controls, 4wd, etc. I'm in the process of "marrying" my harness from a '00 camaro to my 1988 k1500 factory harness. Going ok so far. All i have left is fuel pump relay, and to somehow find which wires go to SES light in the cluster so i can hook the wires from the new computer to it.
I need help on my swap. I have a 2002 6.0 and a 4L80e. Its goin in a 94 silverado z71 4x4 with a 241C transfer case. What are my options for hooking up my transfer case to the 4L80e. (its the manual lever shift style transfercase)
While im typing this, I'll throw in that I have a 4L60e FOR SALE with 75k miles on it if anyone needs one for their swap
This is prob a dumb question but I have a 93 gmc z71 with 5.7 tbi. Is there any engine accessories I can reuse for my ls1 swap?
What all will need to be done on the harness if I'm swapping into a 1980 K10? (mainly switches such as brake ignition etc?)
Also will the stock T case from an 87 Suburban bolt on to the 4l80e?
Thanks Much!
yeah i guess thats understandable... however i think EFI is that way to go personally...

Anyone?
did the transfer case bolt to a TH400? If yes, then you might be in luck.
no it was on a 700r4...
[QUOTE=RedHeartbeat;131558]This is a post from my first conversion that may help you figure out your stock harness should you attempt to use it. It is not 100% accurate so double check everything and if you find something that doesn't jive, be sure to post it here and we'll update it.
1993 OBS Speedometer and Cruise Control wiring
I've been running around with no cruise for the longest time so I thought I'd get around to fixing it. The answer was very simple with help from GasGuzzler. Remove the white DRAC box behind the glove box and pitch it in the corner. Cut the light blue wire with black stripe. Cut the red wire with white stripe. Take a butt connector and stick the two wires in one end and crimp. Take the speedometer signal wire from the PCM and crimp it to the other end. Job done.
BTW, the cruise control cable I used is from a 1998 C1500 with a Vortech V8.
Does this wiring work for an electronic throttle body? Or is there something different that has to be done?
I have a question about hooking up a 4l60e to my 89 k1500 transfer case. Will I have any issues or will it bolt right up? Or would finding a 2000+ transfer case be a better idea and would my drive shaft still work it I have to swap Trans cases?
I am putting a 5.3 into a 91 ext cab 2wd, now in order to keep the old drive shaft and new transmission in the proper location will i need 1" set back mount plates or standard mount plates?
I don't know from exp yet, but everything I've read indicates that the LS is 1" shorter, so 1" setbacks are needed to keep the trans in its current location.
NP241c bolts up.
Brakes have nothing to do with the engine... for wiring info look on lt1swap.com. As for tcase what trans and tcase are in it now?
Dirty dingo sbc to ls1 adjustable mounts
I have my factory drive shaft
well at twice the price the dirty dingo mounts arent really something i was after. They will run alot more too having them shipped up to canada. i dont mind having the tranny move a bit as it will be out anyways(using the new unit not the 700r) as long as i can use my factory driveshaft.
So maybe its better to ask if i should use the factory location transdept mounts or the 1" set back mounts from them.
What have people done for transmission cooler lines? I was thinking I could just use the factory ones but after looking, it sounds like that may not be an option. I have access to a donor truck so if the factory 99+ lines are usable I can try to grab them.
What are the differences between a 96-98 4l60e's? Do they have the same plugs?
From what I have been told by the Brendan Patton(the guy who flashed my PCM on LT1 swap) you will need a Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) from the tail shaft of the transfer case. I think 93 and up had them. If you don't, you will have to either buy a different T-case with the sensor, or buy an aftermarket speed sensor. The reason being is that the 4L60E is an electronic transmission and is shifted by the PCM. Without the pulses coming from the VSS, the PCM doesn't know when the vehicle is moving or stationary.
When using an older trans that shifts by vacuum modulator, the VSS is un-necessary.
As for bolting up, it may. You may be better suited to finding a Tcase from a 93 to 98. That will have the VSS and should bolt up to the 4L60E. Mine did and I'm running a 99 4L60E out of a Caddy Escalade originally powered by the traditional small block Chevy 350 with Vortec injection. I still retain the original T-case.
I ended up removing my old adapters out of my trans and installed them into the 99 trans. The male threaded part are metric in both but the female part that receives the cooling line was different. In order to keep my original cooler lines, I simply swapped fittings out of my old trans and put them in the new one.
What about the oil cooler lines? Will they bolt to the 96-98 truck radiator? I haven't read or heard anyone say anything about these.
i would think the line would work. i put an 02 F-body 4l60e in my 96 & i used my 96 lines, just had to bend them a little to fit. the angle they go into the trans is a little different.
i know you're talking about a truck trans but if the f-body is the same i would think the newer truck is the same.
my 96 also has 2 sets of holes. i actually used the forward set on one side & the rear set on the other & my trans lined up perfect in the center. if i would have used both rear holes it would fit but the trans mount stud was all the way against the front of the cross member.
It's seams everyone is just buying the block off plate. But I would like to retain the oil cooler, but the block off plate is much cheaper that the 150.00 adapter plate that allows you to run the an fittings.
Are there any longtube headers out there that will clear on a '96 4x4 rcsb?
Is there a part number for the brake booster vacuum hose if your putting in a 5.3 into a OBS, using the truck manifold? Do I just buy a vacuum hose to fit?
I had a 2000 Silverado extended cab I sold a couple months back and loved the 5.3 I had in it. Had it for 4 years and no issues. Hence this swap I am now doing to my 1994 C1500 W/T. This is my engine first swap. I am mechanically inclined and I recently pulled out the broken 4.3 with 4L60e trans that was in. I was told the trans was rebuilt a couple years back so I would like to reuse it without spending any extra cash. I purchased a bare 2002 5.3 DBC with basically the block, heads, intake and wire harness that had been partially cut. The person selling it got it from LKQ for their truck but sold the truck before they can put 5.3 in. I got this and other parts off craigslist, so I call this my craigslist budget build. Throughout the pass few weeks, I have gotten a 5.3 flywheel with the concaved center (kind of curved in the center) where the bolts go, a 2002 PCM, 2004 full factory truck intake box and hoses, ls1 intake manifold (may hold off till later), just got a full engine harness and few other things from the internet like dirty dingo mounts and the rear lowering kit consisting of shackles and hangers. I swapped the frame mounts to V8 mounts already thru the lower control gap and it was not that hard as long as U have someone else assisting. I also pulled the bed off yesterday to change the fuel pump to a 1996 and later and since I am there, install the lowering kit. This is going to be a simple driver on the weekends, nothing to be raced. I have a few questions that I see different answers, so here they are:
Can I use my 1994 4L60e with this motor? Will a shift kit or a stall converter help with extra power of the 5.3? Which stall converter would be best?
I read up on some people saying to swap out the inside trans harness to that of one of 1996 and later. Or when I have the PCM reflashed, can I tell the one doing, it to disable the PWM for the older 4L60e trans.
I am looking for an inexpensive way to mount the old 4.3 a/c compressor. Is it possible to use the old 4.3 a/c bracket on the 5.3 with some modification?
Can the power steering pump off the 1994 4.3 bolt on the 5.3 alternator / p/s bracket?
I am thinking of deleting EGR and rear O2 sensors. I live in Miami which doesn't require emmisions testing, but I do not want to be killing myself with all those unfiltered exhaust fumes. Can I simply put on a couple aftermarket cats to filter that out? Will they last even thought the O2's will be deleted?
Can I used the 5.3 flywheel that is concaved ( kind of curved in the center) as is or will I need a spacer for the 5.3 to mate with the 4L60e? Or can I simply use the flywheel off the 1994 with a spacer and longer bolts?
Since I pulled the bed off yesterday I saw that the top of the sending unit has a bit of rust and corrosion. I was thinking of changing the complete sending unit. Can I change the complete unit to one off an '02 5.3 ?
I know I am forgetting something, thanks !! This forum is great and is helping me out with this swap, I just had these questions to verify

Need to get wheel adapters for those Camaro SS wheels to fit that truck. Nice project!
Also, the ls1 intake requires a car water pump or you'll have throttle body clearance problems.
Thanks for the reply. I have had the SS wheels for awhile in the garage even before I got the truck. I will have the adapters made in a few weeks, no rush. As for the LS1 intake, I am going to ditch that idea after reading about and speaking to a few people, supposedly the stock truck intake is better for my application. Plus I do not want to go out hunting for different accessory pulleys and such.
Nice work. i am looking for a donor so i can start my 90.
Recently figured out how to copy lots of links at once. These are all somehow related to OBS --> LSX engine swap. This is what I used. It may not be applicable to you or they may not all have 100% correct info. Hopefully it will help others. I can put them in a separate thread if that would be better. Here they are:
