i have done it and it wasnt a deal breaker for me. im 6'6" so that probally helped reaching all the way through the engine bay ;). on a serious note, its no biggie at all, just start at the batter side of the harness, flop the passenger side connectors over the motor, then strap it down to the intake and start pluggin away. i cant remember if i zip tied the harness to the fuel rail or tried to push the loom retainer in its factory spot.. eitherway it works. just make sure the harness is away from headers ...
clint
soo...after fightin pneumonia all week i finally got the chance to swap the harnesses out yesterday, was no prob at all...now its thowing o2 codes but the transmission is back to working, if i ever get this truck running right it will be a miracle!!
ok found a loose ground wire and the cel went out...woohoo!!!
also went to the carwash and took some pics..

Nice!
looks good. How does it drive?
drives good, but since i swapped the harness it idles real low and smells like its running rich, i think one of the o2 sensors is goin out or somethin, it did it all day today with no cel, and finally when i was driving home the cel came on so now i can see what the prob is i hope....another trip to auto zone!!
ok...same codes coolant temp sensor, and o2 sensors.....and now when the truck is warm it doesnt wanna start?....i had nelson turn off the back o2 sensors they dont need to be plugged in for grounding purposes do they?
Nope, no need for the sensors or wires at all once the codes are turned off.
well....i dont know whats wrong then
Get a test light or multimeter and check the grounds from the PCM to the block. Check Red 1 and 40 Blue 1 and 40. They should be dead shorts to ground. Also, check continuity on Blue 74 to the yellow wire on the coolant sensor. Did you replace the coolant sensor?
i ordered a coolant sensor it will be here on fri.
how bout if i unplug the coolant sensor and see what that does...if it is unplugged and the gauge still jumps around that would indicate a short right?...and i will check the grounds on the pcm when i get off...now that i know which pins they are..thanks man
while you have the connections off the PCM verify that the metal pins for the wires are all sticking through the same amount on the PCM connector on the harness.
hey banker how is the truck doing so far
man its running horrible...still cant find the prob.....all the grounds are good on the pcm plug...any more suggestions?
watch its going to be something really easy and dumb and youll just be like are you kidding me...
good luck man
well...i swapped harnesses today and the temp sensor still jumps around as you move the column shifter....changed the coolant temp sensor in the head...still same...i have an extra neutral safety switch i guess i will change it tomorrow, since the prob seems to be related to the shifter....truck runs good now after the harness swap :burnrub:...if i ever get the temp prob fixed i will be a happy man!!
Great! Now just find the short. May be inside the steering column.
ok...found it!!!...it has something to do with the small plug on the neutral safety switch.....which the wires are

....and with 3 different harnesses and 2 different neutral safety switches and still having the same prob in every case, which makes me think it could be a problem with the tune...what do you guys think?
with everything plugged in besides this plug the temp gauge doesnt jump around and seems to be reading right.
i cant get anyone at nelsons to return my calls....i guess i can put my ecu in a buddies truck and see if his does the same thing...will this work?
what will happen if i leave this unplugged and try to drive it?
nobody has any suggestions?
ok...put the ecu in my buddies truck and guess what...same thing happened to his truck...i guess i could have got a bad ecu...it does happen. i just hope nelsons is kind enough to send me another!
im so glad i can quit searching for shorts...cuz evidently there arent any and its a computer prob!
im so happy right now...my truck might not be fixed but at least i know what the problem is!!!!
sweet bud glad to hear it!
it could be something small/overlooked in the tune, or its just not registering right.. have you put your buddies stock pcm into yours at all?
no...i didnt even try it knowing from past experience with the VATS
Allen will take care of you. PM/Call them and let them know. Melissa will fix it up for you quickly. Call and leave a message with them and I'm sure they'll get a PCM out to you ASAP.
ok...should be getting a new pcm today and hopefully all probs will be solved.
installed the new pcm today...all probs solved!!!!.....yippedy skippedy do dah!!!!
damn bro now you get to drive the hell out of that beast! have fun!
glad to hear bro
Well Damn! What am I going to do now? I was looking forward to throwing out ideas on how to fix it for the next two weeks!
soooo how is it?
it runs pretty good...took a buddy for a ride and he said "it runs like this with just a tune?"
oh and i smoked a chipped diesel last night....i love it man
wait till the tune relearns itself completely..
how long does that take?....i put about 20 miles on it since the new pcm
A couple hundred miles.
few more days then!...as much trouble as i have been having i dont think the pcm was ever in for more than about 50 miles without it be disconnected...cant wait to see the difference over the next week or 2!!!
