Thanks for offering guys!! I have a 4x4 at work to get dimensions off of but I don't get access to it I'll definetly pm you both. :)
I finally got in touch with the tubing company this morning and they will be setting up for 1 3/4" tubing towards the end of next week so things will start moving pretty quick. They'd like to send me a set of headers back for QA/QC before final production but I should be able to make the final fitment pretty quick. Things are getting close guys! :)
damn i can smell it!!! nice work keep on their butts haha. i cant wait!!!
looking very foward to this
wow, this thread started last august. Does it normally take this long to make headers?
When you work my schedule, yes! If I lived up north this could have been done quicker but I don't. I was just glad to get a break from the header and converter company that helped me out. I don't think Dynatech headers were made over night.
dont forget to get a patent on those things nitrous. there gonna make you a fortune. seriously. do it. if you dont I will copy your design and make millions
LOL, I hear ya! There's just alot of hurry up and wait at this point. I can't wait to get the first set on my truck to see what kind of dyno numbers I can get out of them.
Oh ya, I might even attempt a complete mandrel bent coated exhaust system with or without cats to go with the headers later down the road.
check in time its been 9 days hahaha:hyper2::hyper2::hyper2:
No problem, I talked with Mark this morning and he started on my headers today. Hopefully he'll have them finished by Monday and on the way back to me for final fitment. Once final fitment is made they will be sent back for the fixture that will be used for mass production. We just want to make sure that there are no fitment problems for the end user. There will be a disclaimer with the headers stating that the proper adapter plates be used for motor positioning vertical and horizontal.
sweetness man!!! so close!! how long are they expecting before any are in production? any ideas? im wicked pumped for these. other wise im going to cry everytime i pop my hood and see stock manifolds... haha keep up the good work!
Don't get too excited-- Nitrous is getting up there in years and doesn't move as fast as he used to.
C'mon Dave give me a break! LOL :bsflag:
Hey guys, how about giving Dave from Random Technology a welcome. If you decide on cats with the headers you'll get theirs which out flow the competition.
I'm thinking this is a good time to start considering this swap. It took me a little bit, but after reading this thread I'm ridiculously excited too. And I haven't even started anything yet.
It really is a kick-ass swap. We're doing one in a C4 Corvette for Corvette Fever magazine, and when we first proposed using a 5.3, we had the usual assortment of naysayers questioning the wisdom of replacing a 5.7-liter engine with a 5.3. The thing they overlooked is that if you pull a Tuned Port out of a Corvette, do nothing to a 5.3 but install it, you get an increase of 40+ horsepower. Add a mild cam and ported heads and it's more like a 100-hp increase. Of course if you use a 5.7, 6.0 or 6.2-liter engine, there's even more power on tap. It's just hard to pass on a 5.3 when you can buy a complete engine with accessories and PCM for less than $750. At the other end of the price spectrum is the LS7-- it's obviously not cheap but with a rating of 505 horsepower, it's fun to think about.
A truck or SUV swap is relatively easy because there's more working room. You have good reason to be excited.
Don't know if anyone is interested, but...
'67 project nightmare ls1 swap - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network
I just saw the "prototype" on another members "burb" this weekend, they are SICK!!! Enough interest and they might just build some, they did for the 67-72 crowd. I plan on using them on my 86 6.0 swap.
We looked at building a similar header because of the clearance in between the firewall and frame. That particular header looks like it will go straight into the transmission pan on the OBS trucks but would be easy to offset with just 2 tubes at the collector. Not a bad looking header either.

some more pics.
These are on a 69 burb 5.3/4l60
Does not hit the pan, just enough room to the side. And those headers are bare steel, not even "finished" yet.
First pair installed!

NOT! Just mine from two years ago. Hurry up, Slowpoke!
pcmcobra, I was talking about 88-2000 chevy trucks because the frame is different but I haven't seen the headers like you have. Either way nice headers.
Greg, I was trying to do something for ease of installation but it was too many bends and would have to be welded. Everyone who's been patient with me I appreciate it and I guarantee a quality header like Thorley but Random Tech and the company these are going to be sold through are top of the line when it comes to C4, C5 and C6 vettes with LSX engines.
yeah, I know, no cobbled together crap like mine! I'm just bustin on ya, brother!
wow so uncool greg i was ready to get out the wallet you a** lol
His name is Dave and is with Random Technology , he's the one that hooked me up with the header distributor and fabricator both. He might not be able to reply for a few days that's why I answered.
subsscribing...
it's now April!! where are you on these??
hahaha i 2nd that 8) you really must be sick of us hounding you by now man? haha if there was any other way i wouldnt. haha
I'm at the mercy of the fabrication guys at this point and they told me they would be completed last weekend and they weren't. I'm tired of telling you they'll be ready and they aren't but I'm doing my best to deal with these guys. I hate to drop them and move to someone else since I've seen their finished headers, they look beautiful. At this point all I can say is be patient or go with the Thorleys or whoever. I'm keeping my word that these will be completed it's just taking a hell of alot longer than I expected. I don't want a set of headers with welds all down the tubes when they can be solid and look like chrome. I'll be on the phone again tomorrow.
Please be patient as you all have been.
haha i can only imagine your frustration man.. that bites. does thorley make long tubes for obs with genIII swaps... i may need something until yours are done unless i use the junk stock manifolds :(
any news yet??
I'm having problems with the tube bender and he says it's going to be awhile before he can get to me so I'm in the process of working with another fabricator to build these for me. there's not too many tubing companies that will make a 1d bend on 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" tubing. I feel like I'm starting over again but that's alright. We'll get there soon.
i know that you are looking for someone to make the tubing that is all one piece correct? what about having someone make them that is not that way? too expensive? take a bunch of pieces and weld them together and make step headers or something?
I have a set made like that and they just look like crap. I want a nice looking quality one piece header with as few welds as possible. The problem with one piece headers is the die needed to bed a tight radius. There's not too many tubing shops that have 1D dies and most of the ones that do are miles from Texas. I don't want the trouble of a weld cracking or coming loose when I can have a virtually seamless header. I have looked into purchasing a bender capable of 1D bends and the paperwork is supposed to be in soon. I would pretty much have to get into the header business to pay for the cost of it though. I do appreciate your input outlaw_king. :)
thats cool i have people that can make them out of as view pieces as possible if you cannot find one that can do it as a one piece tube. he is in cali he makes all our racing headers he use to work for burns stainless... great guy...
its sad that someone at Stainless Works or Pace would not be interested in this... :(
If the guy I'm talking with gives me problems I might be interested in talking with him. I just want my headers to look like this or close to this except for a truck. LOL

Ok, I found a local tubing manufacturer out of Houston that I'm supposed to meet with tomorrow. We're going to discuss all options to possibly get me into the header business which I really didn't want but if I could make all the custom headers that the other guys don't want to mess with there could be opportunities. For right now I'm focusing on the conversion headers so lets stay on that topic here. I'm sorry for the delay but that's life. In the meantime I've made another set of custom headers where both sides look somewhat like a mirrored image instead of what I had posted before. It could take a little time to get me in line with them but we'll see how much money it takes to get me in the door. I'll post pics as soon as I finish the final bends and keep everyone posted.
awesome! keep us posted. stock manifolds will have to work for now. haha
Any update?
I'll need some in about 2 weeks.:hyper2:
Yes, the headers won't be ready in the next couple of weeks, sorry. I've teamed up with someone here on the board and we're actually developing a better header than before and will hopefully blow any competetion away. In fact you could possibly see headers for multiple applications including the older OBS and Newer NBS trucks. Hang tight, things aren't so dim anymore.
Mods, I might need this topic locked for now to help you guys save on band width until we get moving. We will keep you posted on all new developments.
Thanks
