Gotta love the spare driveshafts mounted on the rollbars. :thumb: You know he's not afraid to go at it hard with spares ready in reserve.

Plus I carry a set of complete spare front axle shaft assemblies, front hubs, all required ujoints, hoses, bolts/nuts, fluids and alternator. I firmly believe in the boy scout motto….be prepared!!
So far so good though…I haven’t busted eirther one of my new d-shafts. Even with the doubler and lockers and 40” tires. However…I’m in the process of building a 383 so we’ll see if my luck continues once I get that in over the winter.
Look for some THE OTHER GUYS units, they're not made anymore but are 100% CARB legal. Shorty headers aren't worth your time.

BTW…love your avatar…….kinda mesmerizing…..reminds me of a girlfriend I had in college….ahhhhhh, I miss those days!!!
Ok…edit….
Found this site which sells “the other guys” headers:
http://www.performance-exhaust-headers.com/
Looks like they have my application….albeit they’re expensive as hell !!!! Any other recommendations on vendors that sell them…maybe for less? According to that site it appears that they will appease the local smog nazi’s our here as they have a CARB number. So far…those are the only smog legal long tube headers for a 6.0L I’ve ever seen.

I haven't seen them for sale in forever, I was under the impression they stopped bending them. I saw some 385- Series Ford ones today in the yards.

Ok….so I think I’ve given on up installing headers.
From what I’ve read and seen the money spent on shorty or mid length headers doesn’t really seem to be worth the limited gains in performance that they give you.
Other than “the other guys” headers, I’ve been unable to find a long tube California smog legal header. I would go with “the other guys” headers but they’re a bit spendy and there are much more pressing things that I’d rather spend that money on.
Soooo….I’m thinking of compromising and simply installing a catback exhaust system. What would you guys recommend?
Here’s the criteria I’m looking for:
•Needs to be smog legal
•Want the system to “talk” well during acceleration and idling but not be completely loud and annoying during cruising
•Looking for more gains in torque than HP as this is my daily driver/tow rig
•Would prefer to spend about $500 or less and be able to install it myself
So….recommendations anyone?
The person(s) that told you midlengths don't work are fools.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hit Man X @ Sep 1 2006, 01:54 PM) </div>What smog legal mid lengths would you recommend then? I think that’s the roadblock for me….damn smog laws out here suck ass. I’ve had to resort to some real “trickery” to get away from smogging my K5…but it’s worked. Doesn’t matter anyways….converting it to run on propane this weekend anyhow….that thing will run cleaner than my 2500HD AND will be able to practically run upside down!!!Quote:

Back to the headers though……Most of the information I’ve read made the mid lengths sound as if the performance gains were minimal over the stock exhaust manifolds. Even looking at pictures of the mid lengths and comparing them to the stock manifolds there doesn’t appear to much difference. Yes they’re a little bit longer, yes the primaries are a bit bigger but other than that…I don’t see much difference.
Would you say that the gains in HP/TQ/MPG would be greater with a set of mid length headers and a stock exhaust system versus stock exhaust manifolds and a catback exhaust system?
