dont get to caught up in a PSI number as that means nothing. my old 4.8 on 9 psi did over 500 rwhp without breaking a sweat.
if you have a power goal in mind then just do what it takes to get that number, it may be 6 psi or 15 depending on the tuneup and parts chosen
5.3 with p&p heads and cam to match 219-227 .607-.613, tbss intake, heads have 30 thousands shaved off, is what im running now and am planning to boost, im told that the cam and the shaved heads arnt good for boost ? the origional plans had nothing to do with fi so i guess its expected that it wont be the perfect combination for boost on the first go around
It's obviously not the perfect combination for boost, but it'll work. Your compression ratio is probably around 10:1(assuming you're running an LM7) and that is about the same as the L33 HO 5.3's that many people have had great success boosting.
Pick up the new Hot Rod magazine for a read, they had a junkyard stock bottom end 4.8L with heads, cam, intake, and twin turbo's lay down 1200hp at 26 psi and held it fine
That's probably my favorite article I've read. That made my mind up on doing a turbo on my truck. Now just to save up and piece it together. To the OP, you can always get a set of 317's off someone for pretty cheap and sell your heads. That would drop your cr a good bit. And really if you want you can get a ls6 cam for cheap too.
ive been reading alot about 5.3's w/317's- will net you a 8.5-1/8.6-1 cr, and these guys are turning out easy 600 to 700hp. look up 5.3 turbo van, its a awd chevy express- now one of my favs! and another one was synergy motorsports also in a truck, granted it was a twin setup.
