you guys show no respect for the roots of chevy performance. they arent that much worse, only when you compare stock to stock then they are pretty far off.

oh yea, ls motors are king of bolt on performance. basically they come with way better factory hardware. but the same/higher quality stuff is still available for the good old sbc. just doesn't compare factory, especially the truck motors.
not really really good heads for a 350 the most is like 1000 bucks. and those are bad ass heads.
I want to build a 383 stroker since it soo damn cheap to do soo, and it will more then likly have more power then my 6.0
'kjgh
yea you can find a ls base motor for cheep, but you cant build it for cheep. Thats were the chevy 350 shines.
if you were to have a budget build with 2k dollars a sbc will make more hp then a ls base motor ever will and that including buying the motor.
sure you can. reason the LS gets bad rep for pricey is cause everyone wants forged. majority of motors yo useeing built for sbc are near stock internals.
and yes you can find a cheap kit for a sbc but i wouldnt trust it for my life. cheap parts are exactly waht they are cheap. i wouldnt trust half the internals they sell for those motors.
ok folks, get ready for a long post to read. beware you may learn something you dont want to hear.
first of all, your all missing key details here, ls motor all have nice multi port injection systems, sbcs typically are built carbureted for the sake of low cost, if you put a multi port system on a sbc, what makes them different? think about it. a small block is a small block, both are strong and knows for reliability, both a 90* block, both around 4" bore with around 3.5-3.6 stroke. the difference is sbc have been around since the 50s, so there are parts out there available to build a 100hp sbc if you wanted to, this is not possible on a ls based motor becasue only higher quality parts are available since they came out in the late 90s. when it comes down to it, heads, cam, and induction make the motor every single time, everything else is just bore and stroke, yes i said it, every other aspect is nothing more than the bore and stroke of your motor as well as pistons of your choice, nothing different available for sbc or ls based motors as far as pistons go, they are the same damn thing. theres no black magic that makes your ls based motor better, its not like chevy re-invented the wheel with this motor. so tell me, whats the diference. stock equipment, thats the difference. the ls motors came with more from the factory, sbcs have to be built how you like them... and for alot cheeper.
take an ls block and put it next to a sbc. both about equal in bore and stroke, the 6.0 having a tae more stroke than a standard 5.7 sbc. now add heads, you can add high performance head to both blocks, but can you add a piece of **** head to a ls based motor? no, becasue they havnt been around since the dawn of time like the sbc. thats what gives you the bad impression folks, stock equipment. you all are arguing nothing more than what you motor came with stock which is irrelevant to the quality or power output of either motor, it is not relevant to making a judgment on which motor is truly beter or capable of producing more overall power. like i said, its all about what you want to build.
sbcs are legendary motors that deserve no disrespect from any true chevy fan. they have been around for 50+ years and are still to this day the benchmark in almost all forms of racing. they were light years ahead of their time when they came out and they are still one of the best motors on the planet as far as reliability and ability to produce power. ls based motors in time will prove to be another legendary motor produced by gm. you all need to stop this "mines better than yours" crap.
