Hello all,
I am sure that this question has already been asked several hundred times... but here it is.
I have a 1992 Chevy Silverado: single cab, short bed, 4.3L V6. I found a 1998 LS1 out of a Camaro on ebay. The engine includes the tranny.
Will this setup work in my truck. What will I have to change/mod to get this in my truck.
Here is the description:
You are bidding on a complete takeout LS1 engine/transmission combination with just over 70k miles from a 1998 Chevy Camaro Z28/SS. If you have been looking for a setup like this you will not find a better value anywhere. Damage to the vehicle was not severe and the engine/transmission are in good running condition for their year. This is the same engine found in 1998-2002 Camaro Z28, SS, Trans Am, WS6, 1997-2004 Corvette and 2004 GTO. Water pump, alternator, power steering pump, motor mounts, A/C compressor, EGR, starter, engine wiring harness, LS1 intake, exhaust manifolds, MAF, throttle body and PCM. This combination has the performance 4L60E automatic overdrive transmission.
Any advice would be extremely helpful.

1st piece of advice, go for a 99+ engine. 2000+ engine is a better design due to improved oiling. The 98 wiring and computer is a one year only design. I have done two 98 conversions and ended up buying 2002 PCMs and 99+ wiring harness to go with the engine and transmission. You'll want the three wire water temp sensor from the 98 but that's about the only good thing about a 98. Go to the LS1 conversion section and there is a list of parts for converting to the LS1 engine.

Hi,
I had my truck in since April last year and just got it back in October, but they were working off and on. Just trying to give you some idea of how long it can take. If you want to keep power windows/locks and such (much less your stock tachometer), and your A/C - you'll have some more "fun".
It can be done, just depends upon what you want and your determination. You need to get a computer for it (if one does not come with it) - cause yours won't work.
Also, think about the exhaust, because an LS1 - MUST BREATH!!!
Custom A/C brackets will be needed if you want A/C to rotate it back up to the top side of the motor on the passenger side since its at the lower right on a stock LS1 and this would butt up against your frame.
If your keeping the EGR stuff - this will need to be taken into account as well.
You'll need fuel lines - because your TBI lines won't be up to snuff for the added pressure - same for your fuel pump.
This is where you can start thinking about if your determined to do this swap or willing to let go of the truck and look for something new.
Take your time on the decision....don't look back after you've made it.

Welcome bro! Like the guys said, take your time. It took me a year to find the motot and tranny I wanted with low mileage. There's alot of option out there since GTO's, SSR's, Corvette's, Cadillac's and SS's have the performance motors since the Camaro and Trans Am's have parted with us.
Good Luck, you'll find the info you need here.
