Hey guys! Newbie here with some questions about swapping a 6.0 into my 72 chevy. I already have tuned port injection on this thing, but it looks like the 6.0 is next for my truck!
I Did some searching around and came across this site.. you guys seem to really know your stuff so i figured i'd post a few questions..
I just picked up a 6.0 engine. I'm planning on dropping this in my '72 K/5 Blazer. Now on to my questions:
#1. The throttle body is "fly by wire".. can i convert this over to a cable actuated throttle body?
Is there a company that makes a conversion, or am i gonna have to go find a pedal assembly to make my '72 a drive by wire engine???
If i swap an earlier cable style throttle body all the connectors and sensors will work just fine eh?
#2. Its an '04 6.0 engine. I got the ecm with it, but want an aftermarket wiring harness. which one do you guys reccomended?
#3 Will the stock ECM work or will i have to have it reprogrammed for the VATS system? Who should i send it out to, to have this done???
#4 VSS? I already have a mechanical VSS for my TPI. Does the 6.0 require a VSS and will my tpi vehicle speed sensor be compatible?
This Engine is going in front of a manual 4 speed tranny SM465/NP205 combo...
So the transmission controls don't matter... Can i just leave all the tranny connectors unplugged, or will i have to have my computer reprogrammed for this also??
I'm sure there will be more questions as my swap gets underway.
Thanks a bunch in advance! I look foreward to making some friends on this site and getting help with this swap.

No one can help eh??? :flipoff: :taunt:
I'm looking at Currentperformance.com to have them rework my existing harness, and reprogram my computer..
Anyone have any feedback about these guys? Good place to deal with?

Ryan, sorry I had posted over on the other site I really dont have much else to offer.
I am not sure what the vss does with a manual I know it is needed for the auto but not sure on your application.
Speartec gets alot of good reviews on the harness, I got mine from painless it was much cheaper, I dont know if there are any differences in the 04 mine is the 01 variety. As far as programing Nelson Performance (owner of this site) is probbly the best at tuning. I would get ahold of him if the computer is the same I bet the harness I used would work you would just use the correct throttle body.
Dave
where are you located?

#1 Yes you can put a regular cable driven throttle body on that intake.
#2 You didn't get the harness with your computer and engine? I would use the stock harness and save your money. But if you want a reworked harness. I believe Allen makes them. I could be wrong???
#3 Ah... yes you will have to at least get the VATS system turned off. If you're doing that you should get a performance tune for it and remove all emissions garbage. As to who to send it to??? This is Allen's site, he's the best in my opinion and a great guy to work with. Well worth the money.
#4 I believe you're going to have to get a *bin file loaded into your PCM from a work style truck with a stick shift. You're stock PCM won't work correctly with a manual tranny behind it. On the VSS ... you'll have to check the pulses per minute from the older one and the PPM for the newer ones. I think the newer ones have a higher PPM so you'll have to get a newer one to fit.
P.S. most of the swap info for these motors have already been covered. If you check out some posts you'll find a load of info.
