Power steering upgrades?

I need to find something to do that will help my steering out. I have a rough time turning the wheels at a stand still, yes I know dry steering isn't good. But still even when rolling you can hear the pump working hard...almost as if you go to full lock all the time, but not at a lock..it does it through out the entire range of steering. I'm sure it has to do with there being 24x,xxx miles on the factory pump. I know the UDP didn't help me any either, but what can I do to help out how terrible it is? Stand alone pump and resivor? Just looking for some options here.

Change the fluid first. It gets neglected, and it does break down.

+1 on a fluid change, also if it has a filter in one of the lines check to see if its full of gunk

Modify it!!!!!!!!

Can't you drill out the main fitting? Or take out a spring?

i also use ATF instead. No real reason, just usually have a few quarts laying around the garage.

If I knew the answer to that, I wouldnt have asked you fools...:duh:

I have seen a few cars with aftermarket powersteering pumps and remote resivors, not sure if its do able on our trucks, or if it were would it even be worth the effort/money/time spent?

when i needed to replace my PS pump i had hydraulic assist steering put into mine and it came with a new pump. I can turn the wheels with my pinky finger now if im sitting agaisnt a tree and it moves the truck over.
