Wow just got the 5.7 installed

I just got the 5.7 in the truck and wow there is a huge diffence in the 5.7 compared to the 4.8 :eek: . The motor has diamond pistons and callies h beam rods so it should be able to handle a few pounds of boost :lol:With my whipple and 3.5 inch pulley i am seeing 8psi . I ported and polished the heads and had bigger valves installed so they should flow a little beter. I installed a 4l80e also so it should hold up preety good. Allen did the tune for the tranny and motor and let me tell you what he hit this tune right on the dot. The motor pulls really hard and the tranny shifts as if it had a shift kit in it. :thumb: Allen is also makin me up a 3 inch pully for my whipple so maybe i will see 12psi. :smile:

Supercharged 5.7L mated with a 4l80E.....hmmm.....that's a new one for me to see. How hard was it to connect the 80E to the 5.7? Or did it mount right up?
Any particular reason why you went with the 5.7 over the 6.0?
Are you noticing that the 80E is pulling alot of power from the engine?

Always good to have a new engine :thumb:

Yeah the 4l80e bolted right up I just had to take my flexplate to the machine shop to drill the holes for the bigger 80e converter. I didnt notice a power lose from the 80e tranny but then again i never used the 4l60e with this motor. The tranny feels totally different know it shifts harder and just seems to handle the power alot beter. :burnout:

:doh: I forgot Allen installed that 80E sometime back, but his is Turbo not Supercharger.

The true deciding factor when choosing between the 5.7L and the 6.0L engine is the reduction in weight vs. the gain in cubic inches. Lighter weight is always good IMO. 345 hp 5.7L vs 345 hp 6.0L? Simple, I choose 75 lbs lighter 5.7L aluminum block.

I like the alum. block because it is lighter and it looks good to. The only bad thing is its smaller bore but it is a big step up from a 4.8.

Another nice thing about the 5.7L is that if you trash the motor, a new block is easy to find for a reasonable price and you can reuse almost everything you already have. Just remove your old parts and install them in the new block. You cannot over-bore the cylinders more than .005" so you just replace the whole block, no machine work required. New replacement blocks are all over the place for a reasonable price, I have seen new bare blocks from &#036;500 on Ebay. Sure there is no replacement for displacement but stroker cranks can give you the displacement your pocketbook/credit card can afford. You don&#39;t ever have to look for oversize pistons since they don&#39;t make them except for big bore kits that are very exotic items.
