genIII motor in a 65 pickup

Hey guys I was fixing to start a project and really dont know which way to go with it. I am wanting to get a 99-06 vortec 4.8 5.3 or 6.0 and install it along with the 4l60e tranny. Am I getting in too far over my head or what? Also what would all would I need to get done with the computer? I dont need the a/c. Just want a nice dependable genIII motor in the old truck. Also if any one knows any good deals on a motor and tranny that someone wants to get rid of for cheap please let me know. Information greatly apprieciated. :ugh2:

first off what are your plans for the truck, for the drag, dd, a little of both?

IMO for a good streetable, dependable daily driver, and one that you can go to the local strip with, the 5.3 is the way to go.

I really just want it for reliability. I want to be able to go outside and start it just like a new truck. and i talked to nelson about a wiring harness and computer. he says it is very possible. right now i have my eyes open for a cheap motor and tranny. any one have any they are willing to get rid of??

Hello, Sonny's auto salvage in Jacksonville Arkansas has a bunch of 5.3's, the salesman said we have them running out of our ears, I was looking for a 6.0, but he said they have a lot of 5.3's priced at $400, that's without acc. drive. I also don't know how much they want for their transmissions though, but still I thought $400 for a 5.3 wasn't bad. I looked at them and they have do shelves full of 5.3's, and their stored inside unlike some other place's.
