Alternator Wiring Help
Hey guys, after driving the truck around for a couple of days, I noticed my alternator isn't charging...how do I know this, how about on my way home from work last night, my lights go almost pitch black and the truck dies in my driveway...yea, battery is fully drained.
Anywho, here's what I did wrong. As you know, I had a 5.3L in the truck before this LS1 and it is all connected via the truck 5.3 Harness. Well, the alternator for the 5.3 engine takes an exciter plug with 3 wires going to it to activate the charging of the system. The LS1 on the other hand, I guess takes a one wire system?
I just plugged the plug from my 5.3 Harness with 3 wires into the LS1 alternator and apparently this isn't doing the trick.
Anyone know how to fix this problem?!?!?
Thanks,
Cody B.
If anyone has any info on this, please call me if you get a chance (479-420-5347), I'll be outside sweating my nuggets off repairing a header leak :)

If it's just 1 wire, it's the one from the gauge cluster.
It needs a small resistance inorder to charge.

The new alternator is a one wire setup from my Trans am, but I have an exciter plug that has the 3 wire setup from my 5.3's alternator. I know that one of the wires gives a 12V signal to the alternator to start charging, but I don't know which one it is.
I think I need some pinouts and then I could fix it up.
Anyone have the pinouts for an 02 LS1 harness? I have the one for my 5.3L...
Thanks again.
