cam selection

ive been looking at cams once again, this is what ive come up with, it should have a small thump nothing to radical if im thinking right, ive done alot of reading...and ive noticed the giant cams in pretty much stock motors dont do so well on making power, however they do sound MEAN!, so im thinking i would rather have a little thump and make better all around power instead having a mean sounding stock 5.3 thats all bark and no bite...i do have one question though...the ICL at 110 means this cam would have +2* ground into it right?

I have been looking at that same cam for my 5.3 also. But everyone keeps telling me go bigger but im sot so sure. I was also looking at the 222/224 566/568 on a 112lsa...

Yes, it would be advanced two degrees. If you drive this truck daily, that would be a good cam for a 5.3 engine. It would make power up to about 6000 RPM. If it were me, I would set the ICL at 108 instead of 110. That would give you a little more low-end grunt w/o affecting idle lope. Shift at 5800 RPM.

Bigger cams require higher RPM levels to make their power. This is not only harder on the engine, but makes lower-RPM, part-throttle performance a little sluggish.

IMO go bigger. I ran a 6.0 with a 223/226 in a Daily driven 4wd. It was great, but thought about going bigger. Im gonna go a hair bigger (224/226 probably) in my '76

i want to stay with the smaller cam i think, if i had a bigger motor like the 6.0 i would def go bigger, or even if i had more mods i would go bigger, but i think this should be about the right size foa a daily driver and shouldnt be to bad on mpg and should still make a pretty noticeable difference over a stock cam

yeah ive seen some that put it at +4*...i probly will go with a 108-109...i would rather have the bottom end power and set shift points about like i do now which is right at 5900
