A few questions for a 5.3l in a '91

I'm about to start my engine swap and had a few questions.

1. Is this the correct fuel pump I'll need and will it work in my original tank?

2. I've heard the truck oil pan hangs down past the crossmember and I'm planning on an air ride system and laying frame. Is there a shorter pan I can use that will still clear the crossmember without moving the engine farther back?

3. The guy that has the engine I'm looking into says he can instal an LS1 intake and is recomending it but i'm wondering if the gain in horsepower will be worth any loss in torque. This is going to be my daily driver and will probably not see much high revs.

4. Heres a list of everything it comes with, He's asking 2850.00 Does that seem like a fair price?

yes, correct pump. That sounds pretty high for an engine without a transmission. Yes, an Fbody oil pan, pickup tube and windage tray are necessary if you want to drop it on the ground without grinding the bottom of the pan off.

I wouldnt worry about it, your gonna be tickeled chitless when you hit the go pedal as it sits, as compared to whats in your truck now.

Might be a good idea to install the intake after you get the engine running in the truck, then there is one less variable for something to go wrong and affect your initial start. Sounds insignificant but a simple vac leak has given many a headache.



Worth it is a tough one...

$2850 is definitely high priced for a 5.3 engine with no tranny. If it was an LS1...maybe...but probably not still...there are many ls1 + tranny combos that go for less than 3k.

To put it in perspective...I got an 04 avalanche 5.3 with all accessories for $800..40k miles...

I'd keep looking..but thats just my opinion...

Yeah it seemed kind of high to me too, but is it really to much when you take into account all the extras and that its an L33? How much could I expect to pay if I just peiced everything together myself? 400 to 500 for a harness and tune, around 200 for the acc.? He says he can knock off a few hundred if I decide to stick with the truck intake so that should lower cost some.

I've seen similar milage long blocks online for 1,000 to 1,500. I even checked the local salvage yards and the price was around 1400 for a 70,000 mile bare lm7 block.Where do you guys find thes deals? Is there a good place to look online other than ebay?

I wouldn't try to piece everything together, just keep looking and you will find a good deal

I got my 6.0L with a 4L80E out of an 06 3/4ton with all the accessories and harness and computer for $2500 and it only has 33K miles on it.

I purchased the 03 5.3 with 43K and transmission for $1200. It wasn't a bargain but fair. That included all access., pcm, wiring. The wiring, tune and electric fans would add up to about an extra $1000. But if you get a good pin out you could fix the wiring yourself and save $450.

Well keeping with the truck intake dropped the price to around 2470 so I may go ahead with this engine. I've gotten my fuel pump and filter but the links in the conversion thread won't work for me, can anyone link me the parts from summit or jegs? thanks

I got a 5.3 and 4l60e with all the accessories harness and computer for 700 bucks. It was out of an 02 avalanche with 74,000 miles on it. If i was going to spend that much i would have just gotten an ls1, but thats just me. Good luck with the swap.

I've started looking for a shorter oil pan, will 98-2003 ls1 pan fit an 05' engine.
