Thread: Z06 cam in!

    Well in just under 7 hours the cam is in. It's a '04 Z06 cam and springs. We went by Allen's way of rotating the cam and praying the lifters stayed up, and it worked perfectly! Never had to remove the intake. The all around throttle response is greatly improved, a ton on the low end too which I wasnt expecting much of a change on. It pulls hard all the way to 120, thats just where I had to cut it off! Thanks Allen for the awesome tune to go with it!

    no shit how hard was the install? like what do you hafto take off to do it without takin off the heads and intake? also i thought you were supposed to replace lifters and pushrods and springs and rocker arms and all that good stuff when you change out a cam.... i mean i didnt think stock parts were supposed to be used with a new cam??

    Welcome to the roller camshaft world. You only have to replace the lifters with the cam on old style cams that burnish the lifter to the cam lobe. Roller lifters do not have to be replaced when changing out the cam. If you go to a smaller base circle cam grind you have to get longer push rods with the cam.

    no kiddin ... hmm well then maybe ill do mine soon .. hows it sound now? any different? also how much was everything? and what was the procedure jut takin the front end off ?

    The cam was &#036;150 on ebay, that was the cheapest price I have found yet by &#036;100. The springs were just over &#036;100 with shipping from GMpartsdirect.com.

    As for the installation you have to remove the AC condenser, radiator, front grill, timing cover and chain and water pump, I would also unbolt the alternator bracket, it makes it a bit easier. Only the valve covers have to be removed so you can loosen the rocker arms. Just rotate the cam a few times and make sure the pushrods stay up and you can pull the cam out. Allen taught me that little trick

    u can leave the bumper on though? hmm sounds like ill be doin that real soon then right after i put in my fans prob.. also ive heard about the whooe turnin the cam trick but what do you do if they dont stay up ? ive heard using those pen magnets work

    There are two holes in the front of the cam area in which you are supposed to slide rods all the way down the sides of the lifters to hold them in place. It is a factory designed hole. Rotate the cam a couple turns as mentioned before and then slide a piece of rod all the way in, 5/16" rod I believe. I haven&#39;t tried it yet but have seen it documented.
