Okay, for an in-line tranny filter kit (mine's a Perma-Cool), what's the best practice for location? I've seen them mounted right next the tranny and others more remotely, like up by the radiator. Some upstream from the cooler and others downstream.

Common sense would say to mount it upstream from the cooler, so the cooler is cooling cleaner fluid. Fluid w/ less impurities should cool more efficiently. But also mount close as possible to the pump for best flow.

I'm leaning towards upstream from the cooler, but up by the radiator. My main concern is flow pressure. Is that anything worth worrying about?

Mount it some place you can remove the filter without making a mess all over the place. Put it between the output side and the radiator since you won't want to pressure the radiator any more than you absolutely have to. Yeah, you can cool clean fluid that way, also.

When I get around to installing mine, it'll probably be up near the radiator somewhere. Just so long as it's easy to drain. I'd probably change that filter ever 25K mi in there.

Fluid sans metal filings = cooler fluid.
