    Trans problems!

K so I realize that I'm an idiot and didn't have FLT build my trans. I didn't ever want to have to mention that to you guys but now i have to But now I've got major problems. The other guys, who I'm not gonna mention just yet, sent me a 4l65e that they claim is good for 700 and 700. I never believed that but I don't have that much power anyway, So it would be a decent trans for a couple years until I do an 80. So they send me one and I put it in and it fails right off the bat. Just a wierd miss hap, they took care of it right away. So I get a new one back from them and put it in and It's awsome for the couple miles I drove it, then this morning on the way to work every gear is slipping and I haven't even stomped on it yet. The fluid level checks out. Could this be anything but their fault?

Sounds like you need a new tranny builder.

Wow, slipping in all gears? Never ever seen one do that. I wonder if the EPC solenoid is bad. +1 on finding a new builder. You did flush the cooler lines before putting the new trans in, didn't you? Many companies send a can of flush with their transmissions. I usually flush mine by leaving the return line off the cooler lines and start the engine and run it until one gallon of trans fluid pumps out.

I just got off the phone with them and they asked me the same thing, I failed and didn't flush it. I think I still have 1st actually, maybe 3rd i don't know I stayed out of it after it slipped. They sent a new converter with it too just incase the old new one was bad. So they were also talking about the pump and low oil pressure. But I think this is mostly my fault because I didn't flush it. He said he didn't find anything wrong with the first one, they tore the whole thing down and cleaned it up for me. So it worked for 10 miles then quit. I'll rip it back out then what?

I talked to a buddy that said he's had problems with the perfomance bands in those. Any feedback on that?

Yeah, I've pulled more than one "performance band" out of these supposed performance built transmissions and found it to be wider with more surface area and effing burned up more than any stock band.

Care to mention who built all these bombs for you?

Yeah but burned up within 20 miles? I wouldn't think this would be the result for not flushing my lines do you? I will mention their name when I get this crap figured out. It will surely give them a bad rap and I don't feel right doing that yet unitil I know they are bogus, I'm a softy.

I paid 2095 shipped with a converter, do you think It would be better to have someone look at it locally and get it back together, assuming it's already got performance parts in it, OR send it back and start over with my stock core?

HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!!!!! $2k+ for a tranny that lasts 20 miles??? EFF THAT. I would demand a replacement that WORKS.

What was the reason for the 1st tranny to go out?

If there was trash in the lines, it MIGHT have been enough to clog up the EPC filter. MAYBE.

I would definitely send it back and demand a rebuild. While the unit is out for a rebuild, make sure to flush the lines. I usually take a compressor and blow out the lines where they clip into the tranny. Then disconnect the top tranny cooler line at the radiator and use some flex line and a funnel to get about a quart of fluid in there. Reconnect the lines and then go back to flushing again. You'd be surprised at how much crap is in there.

But I would doubt that all of these problems could be happening with a new unit with a new converter with fresh fluid. In your case, there is about 10-11 quarts of fresh fluid and MAYBE one quart of old, dirty fluid. I don;t think thats enough to contaminate it to clog up the EPC filter or the tranny filter and other screens in the valvebody. I wouldn't think it would, but it is possible.

Do not admit fault to this. If the builder told you to make sure to flush the cooler lines before install and you didn't, then its your fault. But if nothing was mentioned--it wasn't that big of a deal to the builder and didn't worry him enough.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Depending on what happened to the previous transmission failures, you might have had a bunch of debris in the cooler and it's lines. This would be one reason what the latest trans seems to be slipping in all gears. I would suspect that maybe the filter is plugged up with this stuff.

On another note your builder if he sends you another transmission you should probably get a gauge on this thing to check transmission line pressure. I wonder if your computer might be commanding a low line pressure condition for some reason. Might be something to check. Was your transmission DYNO tested before it was sent to you? Vince Bielanski

I personally flush all lines before installing a new one, but your truck has to have some really dirty transmission lines to cause a failure.

I've seen this too many times, after the first failure I'd give up on them, especially after the second one, it's not gonna get any better.

The pcm won't command low line pressure unless the tables are setup to do so, and I don't know of any tuner that commands low line pressure.
If something is faulty with the pcm, wires, etc, it'll hit hard, not soft.

Unfortunately, start looking for a reputable builder or try to get your money back right away, don't mess around with them.

a stock trans with a shiftkit will last a while if you need to go that route.
