k thanks, would yal recommend lifting one said at a time, or both with jack stands? also weres the best place to set the stands?

Put jackstands before and after the frame where you are cutting. I had 6 stands on my truck while working on it. 1 on each each before the frame and 1 on each side after the frame as well as two underneath the rear axle.
Don't let your suspension sag when you are measuring it. The close to the frame the axle is the easier it will be to measure.
You don't want to cut with it hanging because sometimes the axle won't move directly up and down(may move forward or backwards).
Just measure twice, then when you think you are good, measure again then cut.
I used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel then ground the corners to make them a bit stronger, drilled one hole at a time and bolted it on.
