Hey everyone, i just bought a 1950 Willys pickup. This is my first project and im just trying to put together a plan for it. I was given a set of Dana 44 axles out of a wagoneer. My truck has a dana 18 transfer case. I was thinking of putting a Th700r4 into it, I've heard different things though. is the th700 compatible with a LS1 engine? Or is there a different transmission you think would work? Any help would be great!

Yes, they're compatible. But, what are your plans for this truck? If you want a hard core wheeler, I'd go with a th400 and a Dana 300 and a set of Dana 60's. Both are nearly indestructible. Dana 44's are good axles for moderate wheeling but can be beefed up to be very strong. If it's moderate wheeling you're planning, the 700r4 and Dana 18 will be fine.

Thank you sir. I'm planning on restoring her to be my daily driver. I just want to be able to go off road if necessary. And I'm planning on putting some 33's on her.

Yeah i know its a peice of junk right now, but i've always been a jeep guy and i've wanted one of these since i was little. I like that ride you have though! I'm thinking of going orange with mine as well.
Cleaned her up yesterday and started taking her apart.
There are no dents and the only Rust damge is the floor boards which will be an easy fix
Planning on doing some body work on the hood and putting some dual hood scoops on her
Today im working on getting the engine and the rest of the drive train out. It came with a old ford flathead V8. And the frame is in amazing shape. There are no cracks the sanding is going much faster than i thought it would.
Please know I was joking! You don't see many of these around, let alone on this site, so it's a pretty cool coincidence to have someone else on here with one.
Nice project. Post that flathead for sale on Ebay or Hemmings Motor News. Someone needs it!
