    Hey whats up!

new to this forum and just wanna to say whats up. I have not done much with trucks since my early college years. I can say that i have owned at least one Chevy PU from each decade since the 60's (First car was a 66' 1/2 ton 4x4).

I currently own a 2004 ECSB 5.3l 2x4. We are looking to get rid of this truck and replace it with a 81' - 91 Suburban 4x4. This truck will be used to take the fam to semi-remote locations in the Sierra's (light to med wheelin) and pulling a ~ 5000 lb travel trailer.

I definately want to put a 5.3l and tranny into the suburban, but i would rather have a shop do it. I guess I do not have much time and/or do not want to screw it up and make a large headache. I am looking for a mix of power, fuel efficiency and reliability.

I have read through a whole bunch of posts here.

What i need help locating is the type of shop or a specific shop that can help me with this swap?

Is there any work I should have done to the engine during the swap (cams, intake, etc.) that will help me with efficiency?

and how much should i expect to pay?

Anyways, I know a lot of questions for a first post! I guess that is what i get warming up for April 20th!!!

    Thanks,
    Michael

Sounds like a good plan. Budget funds for a/c retrofit into the older truck since it had R12 originally. In Cali you're probably going to get hit pretty hard for EPA fees for the A/C retrofit. The 5.3 is plentiful and inexpensive. Budget about 60 hours of shop time for the retrofit according to Street and Performance. A finished wiring harness is pricy, shop around for the best price. Be sure you get the transmission along with the engine. Your Sub is going to be putting quite a load on the tranny so be sure you add a transmission cooler to help out. Your fuel tank is going to be a bit tricky. You may be able to get away with using an external fuel pump such as a Walbro unit. Keep it simple to keep it reliable. HP isn't truly needed for such a vehicle IMO, just torque. Have fun and keep us informed on how it's coming together.
