Thread: 6.2 L L92 swap and info

1. #1
Figured I would start a new tread instead of hijacking someone elses.

Mine would be swapping into a 96.

Would the truck be fly by wire with the 6.2?

Best bet right now is to get an old donor 5.3 or something and take all the needed parts off that, and then just buy the bare bones 6.2 from GM Performance?

What would it take to hook up an old NVG 3500 to that?

Good start, but I am sure I will have more questions.

I'd start the search with salvage yards. If you have time to wait, that will be the best way to locate one for the least amount of money. I believe the L92s are only in the 2007 vehicles, could be wrong though. I'd get the complete engine/trans/harness/pcm and as much of the rest of the truck that they'd throw in with it. If you know people in the salvage or insurance business they can let you know if one is going to auction. You can buy the whole truck and then sell off the remains after you strip out what you want.

I am not in a big hurry. My truck is still running, so I have some time to look around. I figure the 2007's will start to show up in the junk yards soon but the price I would guess is going to be high for awhile. It is nice to be on the fore front of a new swap, but it is also nice to have everything already done and just follow the gang.

It is just nice to have something different than everyone else.

well, it's the price you'll pay to be first haha. You could go 6.0 and stay safe and be like everyone else, that's what I did. I think the 6.0 swap is nice because people have at least done a few of them and it's not like your gonna have a question no one knows the answer to. There's a little information about the 6.0 swaps out there to help you but it's not so common that its gonna bore people when seeing what your doing. My rcsb is one of a handful I've ever read of especially 4.3 to 6.0 swapped to 6.0 so I wouldn't say my swap is common yet.

Well mine is a 96 rcsb 5 speed 5.7 with a powerdyne SC. The guys at the dealership love it.....just because it is different.

But an OBS 6.2 L with a T56 and 4WD in it would be really cool...and different.

That's what I am told about my 5.3 powered '86. Plus, it's awesome showing it off to unsuspecting sportscar drivers who think the box-shaped brick can't move with the best of 'em.

My brother has an 85 Sierra Classic 2wd, that would be a nice truck with a nice Gen III motor in it.
