What gear ratio do you guys reccomend? I am doing a 5.3 with a 4L60E transmission into a 1984 short stepside. I am wanting to get good gas mileage as this is going to be a daily driver. It currently has a 2.55 gear ratio I think it might be to high what do you think? Thanks Danny

    3.73 or 4.10
If you live in the hills 4.10 on mostly flat land then 3.73.

Might as well toss a Posi in there while you're at it!

I'm currently running 3.42's & at 70mph I'm taching 2100ish rpm. I've got 3.73's awaiting installation. It kinda depends on the person & what you are trying to achieve but I would say you can't go wrong with 3.73's if you've got auto with OD & lockup TC. If it is your only transportation I would be leary of 4.10's.

The tire size your going to run will have a lot to do with that. What size are you going with? Mine is a daily driver with 4.56's but I have 33" tires.

I've got 3.42s with 29" tires and like the mileage with it when it runs right. 22 mpg was awesome!

I like the 4.10's I pulled my 3.42's out and Pyle Differential in Baytown installed the new one's . They said I'd be happier with the 4.10's over the 3.73's with the overdrive tranny and boy were they right. I drive 80 miles round trip 6 to 7 days a week and never had a problem out of them. They dared me to try and tear them up at the track and I haven't so far. They did recommend putting factory gears back in since the Richmond have a tendency to make noise and I did. If I could just talk myself into getting a Gear Vendors unit I would be in heaven on the highway! BTW, opinions are like assholes, we all have one! LOL

Planning on 4.10s in my '86 RCSB. Have the 2.73s, so I know how ya feel with the tall gears.
