    T/A LS1 into 96 OBS 4WD

A quick hello to all as im fairly new to the forum. Ive been prowling the threads for awhile tho with hopes to learn a thing or two before i go asking questions that have been asked a million times before. Which i think i have. Ive taken an abrupt turn from the Volkswagen scene stretched poked and slammed with 30 mpg. to well..

    [IMG][/IMG]

    1996 5.0 4l60 4wd 225k and counting

Im picking up a 2000 LS1, Ill need to source items such as intake manifold TB fuel rail and accessories. Ill know for sure what hes used off it once i pick it up hopefully this weekend.

I located a 99 silverado 5.3 semi-locally to source parts from, nearly the entire truck is intact from what im told. i dont know if its 4wd yet.

After reading some of the threads of wiring DIY ive almost talked myself into not even attempting and just going with a harness from nelson.

For my purposes going with the truck intake and accessories will likely suit me better.
Im not building a truck for the strip or pit, just endlessly upgrading. SAS maybe later.

I had a couple questions i didnt clearly find answers to, Any issues with obd2 inspection if done with a nelson harness?

What adapter/spacer is it that i need to use to mate the obs 4l60 to the ls1...
along the same topic what torque converter

Can i use the ecu from that 99 silverado? Anything else key to grab from such a donor

Ive hardly scratched the surface of my questions, and steps into the swap. If i can piece it all together in my head, and then on the floor, the swap should be straight forward if all preperation goes well. id like to knock it out with downtime as a 4 day weekend with some spare hands and brewskies.

ok awesome! im not an expert on these swaps by any means but id be happy to help. good to hear you are going with a nelson harness. it will make things a million times easier. make sure you dont hack up your original harness until you get everyhting going. im learning this the hard way.

dayum, patriot heads are $1335 these days according to their website. You can't beat a deal like that! I have an early set of Patriot heads, back before they started milling the name on the ends. One day I may put them back on my engine.

Yea its a deal, and some extra headache when it comes to gathering all i need. apparently its a matched head cam set? however i dont know the specs or model #'s yet... as you see it is all it came with. even the rockers were nabbed to go into the engine for the car this came from. ill have to source every bracket, sensor, accessory and all the corrosponding bolts / hardware. For never really touching these engines before aside from routine service "oil change / tune up" .... ive got some learning ahead of me.

Only issues to catch my eye was the rear opening in the valley cover appears to have excessive oil thats blown by what i assume is a gasket or sealing ring of sort.

    QUESTION:
Is there any valley cover difference between a truck or fbody engine?

Just scored a truck intake manifold, DBC TB, fuel rails, injectors, and coilpacks and engine cover for $28.00 plus tax from an 01 Ill be going back for more, ran out of time they were closing. If im feeling froggy i might try pulling the entire engine since the exhaust is cut off and trans has already been removed. just rocking on the engine mounts it appeared. Gauge cluster was already out resting on the dashboard too. Unknown mileage if anyones looking for one. I dont know what how much they want for it yet.
