    F-body 4L60E into my truck

i'm swapping an 02 LS1 motor & trans into my 96 chevy silverado.
i have a standalone harness & will not be using the truck ECU at all.

my question is about the Neutral Safety Switch. the 4l60e i took out the truck has is but the 02 f-body trans doesn't. since i'm not using the factory truck ECU i shouldn't need the NSS on the new trans correct?

so no one has any experience putting an F-body trans into a truck?

i'm running into another problem with the mounting the shifter cable.

I put two 1998/60e fbody combos in and didnt use the neutral safety switch on the trans since it's built into the column on my 92 and 93 trucks.

what shifter cable issue? Use the shifter cable bracket and arm from the old 96 trans.

i think i figured out the problem. since the new 02 f-body trans doesn't have the neutral safety switch, the shaft that comes out the trans is shorter then my 96 trans. so i had the lever that connects to the shaft & the cable backwards. when i turn it around, ball facing in, it should line up perfect. problem is with the shorter shaft i can connect the cable that way because it's too close to the pan & it will hit one of the pan bolts before it goes into park. hope that makes sense. i think my solution is going to be cut the lever in half, flip the bottom half around & weld it back together. then the lever will be in the right position & i'll have room to connect the cable.

next problem is i broke my cable so i have to go to pull a part & grab one. deal wants $100, AC delco on-line for about $60, pull a part is $6, LOL!!!! while i'm there i'll probably check out some out GM linkage.

problem solved!!!! my trip to the pull a part was a success!!!! i crawled under just about every 96+ truck, SUV, & van they had & finally found exactly what i need on a 99 Astro van.
