    Hi,

Putting a 99 LS1 into my 93 Chevy Extended cab. Have a TBI 5.7 currently that is warmed up. It has an Edelbrock performer intake (part # 3704), JET TBI, TBI spacer, Canfield 195cc Aluminum heads. These are pretty nice heads - though their not ported:

    Intake Valve Size 2.055
    Exhaust Valve Size 1.60
    Intake Port Vol. 195
    Chamber Volume 65

I also have Harland Sharp 1.6:1 Roller Rockers, 10.5:1 CR JE/SRP Aluminum pistons, Crane "Emission-legal" cam (216/228@.50 with .454/.480 - before adding the roller rockers - basically an oldschool hotcam), StageII Connecting Rods, the rotating assembly is balanced/blueprinted and has Total Seal rings. I use Edelbrock's part #6666 Tubular Exhaust System (headers) into a highflow cat fed into a Gibson cat-back. Also 3.73 w/ PowerTraxx locking diff in the rear.

I dynoed it and the numbers were impressive compared to the stock small-block. I put 255hp and 320lb tq to the rear wheels. Thats about 100hp over what the stock engine did. I hit 0-60 pretty quickly (just under 7.0) and 1/4 time with ET Streets came out at just over 15.0 (hey, its an extended cab pickup - what'd you expect?).

Anyway, switching in this 99 LS1 with AFR 205cc Mongoose heads, LS6 cam (204/218@.50), 90mm Throttle body, Edelbrock TES again for the headers into the same Gibson. Have heard I could expect 340hp at the rear wheels just from the heads. The engine is healthy, came from a good friends' Camaro - the engine comes with its computer. Also shaving off another 200lbs just because of the aluminum block doesn't hurt.

This is a great board and I've learned alot about all l the things I'll need to make sure are done right. I know I'll have to do the following major things - new radiator, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, new alternator, new starter, rewire for the ciruits into the trucks electronic panel, motor mounts. Anything else you guys think I should be worried about (the truck has a 4L60E tranny already)?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

You might want to consider changing the fuel rail and regulator out to 97-98 vette with return line for the fuel system and modifying the return lines to fit since the 99 only has fuel line unless it's been changed out. The A/C will hit the frame on the passenger side so you can either buy a relocator bracket from S&P or notch the frame. Not sure if the headers will fit or not, you'll have to see once you get the engine in but most hit the upper A-arm unless they are shorties. I'm having some custom bent to keep from hitting the ecentrics. I'm not sure if you're running a tach or not but to make the stock tach work you will either need to talk to Dakota Digital, Autotech or maybe someone here can help you with a module since you're going from one coil to eight. Good Luck!

You might want to talk with RedHeartBeat, GMCWantsLs1, PSWired, farmtruc or some of the other guys here for more help.

    Hi,

I appreciate it. I had heard about the A/C and the frame possibly being an issue. Will look into it as I don't want to notch the frame. I'll probably stick on an aftermarket tac as my stock one only goes to around 5k anyway.

You seem to have a nice set up (383) and all. Did you ever put your truck on a dyno?

    Thanks for the guidance.

Do you have any suggestions for upgrades? I'm really having a problem justifying the F.A.S.T intake, but missing out on 20hp is frustrating....those things are just too $$$. $1,000.00 for an intake????

No, I never had a chance to dyno the truck but wish I had. All I have are my 1/4 mile runs.

Stick with the LS6 intake, from what I've read and seen the dyno results are better. The only reason I would buy a FAST or Weind would be for show or Nitrous. JMHO.

I ran a 14.6 with a stock 2002 LS1 engine with a mild Lingenfelter camshaft. The engine was running really lean at the time too. The long term fuel trims were maxed out and needed more fuel to reach the needed fuel mixture. I ran a EXT cab C1500 fully loaded with a pair of tires and wheels in the bed of the truck during the run, also. You should easily beat my time with proper tuning. I would suggest the Street and Performance A/C mount and Sanden 508 compressor. It's a clean setup.

    Update.

I found out today that the guys at LG Motorsports really took care of me. My heads came in and not only did they flow test them for me and spec out okay, but LG knew I was not interested in supercharging the truck, but wanted street legal heads....

They had AFR mill the heads to 59cc (versus 74 or 66 which is standard), they did a 4-way CNC porting, put springs able to handle up to .650 lift and put 5-angle valves in them. This for $2500.00...not bad since these heads are about $1950.00 straight with the basic package.

I plan on swapping a set of Canfield Aluminum small-block heads (used) for a Z06 intake the next time one is swapped out for one of the F.A.S.T. LSX intakes....just gonna make an offer and see if the Z06 owner will let me.

I figure between the Z06 cam I'm putting in, these heads and all, that things ought to be pretty good when all is said and done. Still don't have an idea on the final HP, but still figure 340rwhp should not be a problem.

    Take care,

    Hi,

Update. Well its been a long time - I took the truck in back in April. It looks like September 20 is the date. If its a bit longer, that's fine, cause I know its getting done right. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!&#3 3;!!!

Anyone thinking of doing this conversion.....BE PREPARED!!! I had a 93 4L60E, which I'd spent ALOT of money on. DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU YOUR OLD TRANNY WILL WORK FINE -

Tell them they've been sniffing too much - cause in the back of their minds, their doing

Which will leave you ending up in

I had to spend $2k on a new 4L60E ('99 version) because of electronics which I thought was

So, if your going into this - be prepared - I wasn't, but thats okay.

The guys put a 6.0 intake on it.

Another thing was with the custom engine mounts they made, the Edelbrock shorty headers did clear the suspension....which was believed to be a problem.

Also, WE DIDN'T NEED Texas Speed!!!! - hehe - the guys relocated the stock (original - 93) A/C to the passenger side of the engine.

My only question now, who has a cold air box for this?

    Nice!!!!!

I live right down the road from LG Motorsports. Ive dealt with Lou and his guys for over 5 years now and i dont think id ever go anywhere else. (Ive got a 97 Camaro and a 95 Trams Am) Ive been thinking about doing an LS1 swap in my Yukon but i definately cant afford a $2500 pair of AFR heads. Although AFR makes some of the best so it's money well spent. I think the LS6 Intake would be the best for you. That with a mild cam ( a little bigger than a Z06 cam) should net you 350-375rwhp easy. But the Z06 cam will definately give you good low and preformence and you wont necessarilly need a high stall converter because of the wide lobe seperation. Of course a 3000rpm stall wouldn't hurt the 1/4 mile time

Just about the coolest thing I've found out so far about the swap. We're getting the computer flashed. All this time I was thinking it was going to be a CamaroSS program used. Well...nope.

I also thought we would use a Z06 cam. Nope.

We're using the LS1/LS6 Hotcam which has quite a bit more duration, but not quite as much lift...off by .25 (.525 vs something like .541 I think). Some think this is not such a "hot" cam. I think this would be okay inside a truck though. What do you guys think?

Oh, the computer, its going to be flashed to a 2000 Vette. Pretty ...

We had FastChip do the flash, it should be back to the shopt tomorrow. Man, I can hardly wait!!! The anticipation is killing me.

True you dont need a higher stall converter with the Z06 cam, but I can tell you by experience that a higher stall converter is a definate plus, I did lose a bit of low end with it in my 5.3 and a 2600 stall and long tube headers just got added to my list.
