I wasn't sure which engine I wanted to put in my truck but finally decided. It's an 02 LS1 complete pull out with 4L60E tranny, LS6 blockand 241 heads out of a WS6. I built some stainless motor mount adapters from the print that Redheartbeat sent me but still have a little polishing to do on them just for the hell of it. (Thanks Greg, I'll get them to you as soon as I can).

I'm sure you guys saw on TV the other night the explosion that occured at BP in Texas City. I was there, in fact It was within a couple of hundred feet of the project I've been working on since January. God was looking out for me because I just left the area to make a quick phone call and was headed back to the unit when the whole place rocked. I've worked for BP for 16 years and have seen some fires but nothing like this. I've lost some friends and my deepest sympathy goes out to their families and the families of the other lives that have been lost. I also have some friends spread out in various hospitals from Galveston to Houston. Hang in there guys, I know you're in good hands and will get home soon!! They let us have the weekend off to get our heads straight and get a little rest. I think we all need it!!!!

I'm going to be pretty busy for the next 4-6 months and won't have much time to read so I guess I'll go ahead and ask some questions.

    My truck is a 97 GMC with a Vortec 350 and 4L60E.

What wiring will I have to splice into and does anyone have a diagram of the wiring?

Will I have to cut the drive shaft or will everything mate up ok?

What headers are you guys using? Allen told me go with 6.0 shorties.

Will my same tranny tail mount work or will I need to purchase an offset.

Will I need to modify the transmission cross member?

How high did the LS1 raise the front of your truck vs the original motor?

I will probably be asking some more questions as I go. I will also take pictures of the install and send them to Allen along with the questions and answers I receive here.

    Thanks for your input, Lance

    Damn, Dude. Glad you're okay.

I'll be going to Street and Performance for a set of their G-body mid-length headers.

The stock 5speed crossmember bolted right to the 4L60E, just had to slide it back.

My drive shaft had to have a different yoke and be shortened but I had a 5speed not a 4L60E.

I have the conventional tranny mount from a Astro van on my 4L60E and it fit perfect. I haven't looked at an F-body mount but it may work fine, just no torque arm will be mounted on it.

You're losing close to 100 lbs off the front of the truck so it will probably raise 1" or so.

Wiring, now that's a fun subject. LS1Nica did his own and may be able to point you in the right direction. I had a POS vendor do mine and he effed it up and took for ever to get it back so I can't help you much. I documented the wiring harness as delivered to me on LS1Tech. Search my posts over there. Some have added more to the original post with corrections and updates.

Thanks for the reply Redheartbeat! I'll give S&P a try on the headers also. If anyone else has header suggestions that will work, please let me know. Thanks!

Greg, I talked with S&P today and it looks like the Type III headers are gonna be the way to go. I wish they were all stainless though. The flange is great stainless but I'm not sure how the coating will withstand the nitrous. $520.95 is a great price too!! JBA shorties are $545.00 and they're all stainless but the mid length looks so much better! Thanks!

    Later bro
