BWD PN OS839 for V6 Camaro 1997-2002

I searched GMPARTSDIRECT.COM for a 2002 Camaro V6 O2 sensor and your part number came up. Are you using that O2 sensor because the way they build your harness? The Camaro LS1 harness has a female end and a male O2 plug.

thanks a lot guys.

My harness has the male end on it. If anyone has gone through trying to find the right O2 for their setup, it's a nightmare. So, I've proven this combination and that's what I'm sticking with, haha.

thanks,

allen

The 5.7 Liter V-8 engine is identified as
RPO-LS1 and VIN-G.

Camshaft and Drive System

A billet steel one-piece camshaft is supported
by five bearings pressed into the engine block.
The camshaft has a machined camshaft sensor
reluctor ring incorporated between the fourth
and fifth bearing journals. The camshaft-timing
sprocket is mounted to the front of the
camshaft and is driven by the crankshaft
sprocket through the camshaft timing chain.
The crankshaft sprocket is splined and drives
the oil pump driven gear. A retaining plate
mounted to the front of the engine block
maintains camshaft location.

Crankshaft

The crankshaft is cast nodular iron. The
crankshaft is supported by five crankshaft
bearings. The bearings are retained by
crankshaft bearing caps, which are machined
with the engine block for the proper alignment
and clearance. The crankshaft journals are
undercut and rolled. The center main journal is
the thrust journal. A crankshaft position
reluctor ring is mounted at the rear of the
crankshaft. The reluctor ring is not serviceable
separately.

Cylinder Heads

The cylinder head assemblies are cast aluminum
and have pressed in place powdered metal
valve guides and valve seats. Passages for the
vapor ventilation system are at the front and
rear of each cylinder head. There are no exhaust gas passages within the cylinder head.

Engine Block
The engine block is a cam-in-block deep skirt 90 degree V configuration with five crankshaft bearing caps. The engine block is aluminum with cast in place iron cylinder bore
liners. The five crankshaft bearing caps each have four vertical M10 and two horizontal M8 mounting bolts. The camshaft is supported by five camshaft bearings pressed
into the block.

Exhaust Manifolds
The exhaust manifolds are one piece fabricated stainless steel and are a double wall design. The exhaust manifolds direct exhaust gases from the combustion chambers to
the exhaust system. Each manifold has a single inlet for the Air Injection Reaction (AIR) system and a threaded opening for oxygen sensor installation.

Intake Manifold
The intake manifold is a one-piece composite design that incorporates brass threaded inserts for mounting the fuel rail and throttle body. The intake manifold is sealed to
the cylinder heads by eight separate non-reusable silicone sealing gaskets which press into the grooves of the intake housing. The drive by wire throttle body assembly
bolts to the front of the intake manifold. The throttle body is sealed to the intake manifold by a one-piece push in place silicone gasket. The fuel rail assembly with eight
separate fuel injectors is retained to the intake by four bolts. The injectors are seated in their individual manifold bores with O-ring seals to provide sealing. A fuel rail stop
bracket is retained at the rear of the left fuel rail by the intake manifold mounting bolts. A snap fit Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor housing is mounted at the rear
of the manifold and sealed by an O ring seal. The MAP sensor is installed and retained to the MAP sensor housing. There are no coolant passages within the intake
manifold.

Oil Pan
The structural oil pan is cast aluminum. Incorporated into the design are the oil filter mounting boss, drain plug opening, oil level sensor mounting bore, and oil pan baffle.
The oil pan cover, oil temperature sender and oil level sensor mount to the side of the oil pan. The alignment of the structural oil pan to the rear of the engine block and
transmission bell housing is critical.

Piston and Connecting Rod Assemblies
The pistons are cast aluminum. The pistons use two compression rings and one oil control ring assembly. The piston is a Iow friction, lightweight design with a flat top and
barrel shaped skirt. The piston pins are chromium steel. They have a floating fit in the piston and are retained by a press fit in the connecting rod. The connecting rods are
powdered metal. The connecting rods are fractured at the connecting rod journal and then machined for the proper clearance.

Valve Rocker Arm Cover Assemblies
The valve rocker arm covers are cast aluminum and use a pre-molded silicone gasket for sealing. Mounted to each rocker cover are four individual ignition coils.
Incorporated into the covers are the oil fill tube, the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system passages, and the engine fresh air passages.

Valve Train
Motion is transmitted from the camshaft through the hydraulic roller valve lifters and tubular pushrods to the roller type rocker arms. The valve lifter guides position and
retain the valve lifters. The valve rocker arms for each bank of cylinders are mounted on pedestals (pivot supports). Each rocker arm is retained on the pivot support and
cylinder head by a bolt. Valve lash is net build.

Since this is such a popular question I figured I would post the answer...

Corvette fuel filter commonly used in OBS conversions if you are doing a returnless type fuel rail install....

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/ind...p;TempYear=2000

http://www.wixconnect.com/images/filters/2510_1.gif

Wix 33737 www.planetautoparts.com $37.93
GM 10299146
Purolator F55493

Hastings GF336
PGF336
GKI GF1822

Connectors required to hook to the filter...
Dorman PNs

3/8" female connector DOR-800-121 www.midwayautosupply.com $7.36
5/16" female connector DOR-800-120 www.midwayautosupply.com $7.36
3/8" x 12" double ended male connector DOR-800-155 www.midwayautosupply.com $9.57

You'll need fuel injection quality fuel hose to connect the Dorman quick connects to the old steel fuel lines. I cut both the pressure and return lines about 2" before the factory filter location. Use the rubber fuel injection hose to connect to the new filter. Use 2 hose clamps on each end of the new connections. It's best if you use the hose clamps that have a smooth stainless steel liner to protect the hose. You'll need about 6 feet of hose to connect from the filter to the fuel rail if you have an extended cab. The outlet side of the filter will require the male fitting be cut to about 4"-6" long from one end and then push it into the fuel hose and double-clamp it.

I'm just finishing up my swap and heres some extremely helpful info I've figured out.

The S & P style mounts move the motor about 1.125" forward in the engine bay. This makes you need new driveshafts, trans lines, relocate trans mount and all that fun stuff.

If you take the S&P mounts, move the 3 holes for the SBC engine mount 1" back (not enough clearance between holes to move them 1.125"), it puts the LSx motor in the same spot as the SBC motor. Then if you are using your original trans and t-case if 4wd, you use your old driveshafts without cutting them. If you use a new trans or transfer case, you use your old driveshaft with a yoke from a NBS truck, and if you are using a new t-case also, then you use a complete front driveshaft from a NBS with the same t-case and it all bolts in perfectly.

This also allows you to keep the trans mount brace in the stock location without moving it at all. My trans lines also fit without bending them or tweaking them at all.

For the radiator, use NBS upper and lower radiator hoses. Should fit with no problems at all.

Motor mount adaptor reference:

That is a normal S&P style adaptor plate, to put the motor in the stock location, you move the 3 holes for the SBC mount to the LEFT in that drawing.

Yeah, I believe S&P's mounts are designed to install an F-body LS1 engine. Their location is primarily to clear the alternator to the power steering pump in most older vehicles. The truck and corvette accessories are definitely a plus since the driver side accessories are mounted up high and it allows you to mount the engine in the stock location with the right engine mounts.

Okay, latest thing learned, valve stem seals for double valve springs on a late model head. The late model heads have the valve spring seat and seal as a one piece assembly and will not work with double valve springs. What you have to do is replace them with the seals from the earlier 98ish LS1 heads. The FelPro part number for the seals is SS70945 and comes with 8 intake and 8 exhaust seals, seperately bagged with a guide you slip over the valve stem to protect the seal during installation. I used a deep 13mm 6 point socket and extension as a driver to install the seals.
