    1991 suburban 5.3l or 6.0l swap with 4l60e

i have a 91 suburban that i want to swap a 5.3l or 6.0l with a 4l60e into. i have a few questions. what needs to be hooked up to pass emissions? egr? evap? secondly, will the 4l60e bolt in where my 700r4 is without cutting the driveshaft? from what ive read they are the same length. and last but not least, will the stock fuel lines on the burb hold up to the higher fuel pressure, or will new lines need to be run? my plan is to collect all the parts i need for the swap before i start it. its a running driving truck, it just needs a little help with fuel mileage... lol that and the extra power would be nice.
    thanks,
    John

Transmission swap should be no issue but I'd look for a 6L with 80e for that heavy pig, then you'll have to get an 80e/TH400 slip yoke installed on your driveshaft and a yoke welded on for a 1350 size ujoint.

What city and state are you in? You may not even have to meet any emissions requirements. I'm in the DFW area and we have sniffer tests at inspection time and mine passes every year as long as the 02s are working correctly.

i live in fort worth right now but i will soon be moving to baytown down by houston. if need be my dad lives a few miles from baytown in cleveland tx and they dont have emissions, so i could register the truck at his address and get inspections there. does my burb even have evap? this may sound stupid but what is that little round ball looking thing on the drivers side fender with all the vacuum hoses on it? im not used to working on anything with emissions as i like classics so i dont know much about the systems. so i could probably get away without the evap system and still pass emissions? ill keep egr. what about the stock 91 fuel lines? better to just run new ones just to be safe?
    thanks,
    John

The Burb should have a evap canister. The plastic ball is a vacuum reservoir type device and I'm sure even your old vehicles had one of those. EGR is only needed on engines that came equipped with EGR, late model Fbody engines didn't have one. Reuse the steel fuel line if you like, I have on all my vehicles.

I doubt the 91 has a real EVAP system but it might have a canister. They only way the inspector knows what to check for is to look on the sticker on the core support.....lose the sticker!

    LOL.

A '91 is a square body R/V not a C/K and is pretty caveman like as far as emissions goes. It has an EGR as well as a cat (the old 6-sided sucky ones). It has other things you don't want too like EST, etc. The good thing about non-emissions counties in TX is that you're gonna put a newer style engine in and it only has to have what the engine had.....and since they have reduced the number of emissions devices since the beginning of the LS engine series, you can SAY it's a newer non-EGR engine. If you're not in a sniffer county all you have to do is find a dumbass or slip a friend a $20 to overlook mods that should fail visual...

what is EST? do the inspectors even have to look under the hood? they never have on my previous vehicles. then again they were all pre-73 vehicles. lol i guess im gonna go ahead and start collecting parts. the reason i want to go with the 60e is because i dont want to have to get the drive shaft cut down. that and its basically an electronically controlled 700r4 and it has done well over the years in this truck. i dont really like the gearing of the 80e anyway. im thinking when i do the swap im gonna swap gears or the whole differential because im pretty sure this one had 2.73 rear gears. most of the 700r4 trucks did. i basically just want this to be a comfortable/affordable daily driver. i wont be pulling much. maybe the occasional small trailer.
    thanks for the help,
    John

btw, heres a pic of the truck.
