    Engine Removal Questions! Help!

    Alright guys,

I finally started my ls1 swap into my truck. Ive taken everything off thats needed and i cant pull the fu*king! engine from the tranmission. I HAVE gotten all 8 bolts on the bell housing the 3 flywheel bolts and also the engine mounts. I also jacked up the tranmission so it wouldnt fall when i took it out. Everytime i try to pull the engine the tranmission just moves forward or side to side. Ive screwed up my rubber tranny mount in the back from moving it so much....

Could someone please shed some light on this! Ive worked on it for about 2 hours now. Thanks alot

did you remove all the ground wires from the back of the heads? Did you seperate the converter from the flywheel/flexplate? If it was an 80e transmission then there should be 6 converter bolts. Are the bell housing and block attempting to seperate?

Yes i removed the 3 bolts from the fly wheel/flexplate, i also removed 8 bellhousing bolts. No the bell housing doesnt even look like its trying to seperate. The tranmission is a 4l60e. And yes i removed all the ground wires too. Ive heard there might be 9 bellhousing bolts?? anyone hear of that?

Yeah, there are 8 bolts. 2 at the bottom that bolt to the oil pan, 3 on the driver side of the block, 2 on the passenger side of the block and one at the top centerline of the block. Sounds like you got them all. Next option is to twist the block to get the alignment pins to release the engine from the transmission.

I dont know what twisting the block is but i feel like ive done it. Ive pulled it side to side and up and down ive even hit the guide pins with PB blaster to loosin them up...

I hate to say it but have you tried a prybar between the block and the bellhousing?

In all honesty, nowhere. If you have to pry, pry against the torque converter and the starter opening.
