Thread: 4L60e swap questions.

  1. #1

    4L60e swap questions.

I have a 98 OBS truck with a 4.3 vortec. I just purchased a 03 5.3 engine for it. My current drivetrain has a 4L60e from the factory? will I need to install adapter plates to make that transmission work with the new motor? I have heard both ways I just want to know for sure. and if so where can I get the plates that I hear about?

Yes, you will need the spacer and longer bolts or hughes makes a converter extension to slip over your factory torque converter to the crank.

either is fine, i prefer the extension and longer bolts available from GM dealers such as CrateEngineDepot.com or SDParts.com

I went there and found this

Transmission Adapter Kit 19154766 - Crate Engine Depot

But it seems to be the reverse? is this right?

That would be needed to put a trans that was behind a GenIII motor behind a GenI motor, so yes the reverse of what you're doing...

    You need this
LS1 Flexplate Spacer 12563532 - Crate Engine Depot
    and these
LS1 Flexplate Spacer Bolt 12563533 - Crate Engine Depot

I reused the the stock flexplate on my 6.0L (same as 5.3L).
