Hello folks, A&A Corvette is building me a nice engine that will have about 800HP on a long body all wheel drive Escalade weighing about 6000lbs

I have heard so many different opinions that I am lost.

I was told 4L65E cannot handle more than 500HP under such a heavy car reliably so go for a built 4L80E conversion. So I did. Later I heard thats BS and a rightly done 4L65E can handle it no problem.

Now I would much rather go with the 4L65E so I can avoid having cross members and drive shafts made. But I have no clue who is telling the truth.

That truck is too heavy for that much power and a 4L65 in my opinion. You need the strength of the 80e and it needs beefed up with billet shafts for that much power and weight.

i wouldnt even use the 80/85e...
the 60e weighs 163 lbs vs the 80e 255lbs
max rev 60e 6400rpm - max rev 80e 5200rpm
max torque 60e 610lb/ft - max 80e 885lb/ft
allowing that much power to have its shifting done by solenoids and
a force motor is sure-fire diaster.
id opt for a TH400 and gear vendor od unit. all mechanical, modulated
shifting, and no error checking yes-no-default
unless you have zippers and quik-disconnects for trans bolts prepare
for some expense.. major expense and down-time...
TH400/THglides are still handling more than that with smaller
budgets and pains...

that said... i used to wish i'd have kept my 375 (modified 350 in a 400 case... wasn't a true 400). only problem was that I wanted short rear gears for racing, but enough gear for highway usage (w/ lower rpms). the aftermarket OD units for those are too expensive (IMO). if you can find one that no one wants, fine, but to pay $1500 - $2000 for an OD add-on is insane (to me).

the th375 was given a bad rap... i liked them for 1/8th mile tracks. lighter the th400
$2700 (retail) $1900-2300 (web) for the gear vendor kit. holds 2000hp+, holds revs of 12000rpm+
youll have more than that in a 80/85e to hold those numbers... plus a 1200 TH400
and no wires!! well except the overdrive solenoid and kick-down solenoid...

Talk to finishlinetrans.com Or even Danny I think he is Sprayed99 I personally like FLT and for that much power 4l80 is better.
