Alright, heres the scoop. The truck, 2000 Silverado Z-71, 5.3. Nothin special done to it other tha a CAI and Gibson Catback.

The problem. The battery keeps overflowing everywhere. The battery is fairly new. It started a few months ago out of no where. The alt is fine, had it checked. We'ce changed the battery out w/ one that wasnt doing that, and it did it to that 1 too. We drained water out of it, we dont have a clue as to what else to do. Its even got the local alt rebuilder/battery guru going bonkers. And by we i mean my dad and i, its his truck..its ruining the garage floor, getting all over under the hood...everything....any ideas or similar experiances?...think it'll stop if he says screw it and gets a gell battery?....this is gettin old.......TIA

Sounds like something is overloading the battery, possibly discharging the battery after the truck is shut off. The constant drain would cause the battery to boil. Is there a heavy charge load on the battery while it is running? Electric fans, HID lights, heavy drain on the starter at startup, brake lights staying on when parked, high power stereo amp (I've seen these things stay powered on even when the radio or ignition were off).

im with red i think something is drawing power, u may have to use a multimeter to check and see whats drawing power while shut off. one solution to ur battery prob may be a gel based battery, at least it wont bubble like the water based does. if it has an alarm on the truck i highly doubt itd draw that much, but if somethings shorting out it could cause problems like that.

you got resistance in the ground circut. clean/replace/ or add more grounds. clean all the grounds. take the braded wire off the firewall from the drivers side and the rear of the head, clean and reinstall. take the alternator off the mount, clean the mounting surface of the alternator to the engine bracket. i'd even replace the ground cable, you can get a used one cheep from the wrecking yard. try adding a ground strap from the alternator mounting bolt to the battery. i had the same thing happen to a truck, with resistance in the ground side on the battery the alternator sees a load all the time and tries to charge the crap out of the battery. if you install a dry cell in that system it will burn up that battery also. i freekin melted down 2 yellow top optima batterys wired together on a charger that should have shut down after charging, but didnt. monday morning the batterys were spraying smoke out the vents on top of the batterys, they wouldnt warranty them. (that cost me $$$&#036
