I am having problems with my gas gauge on my 2000 Silverado 4x4. When I have a full tank, the gauge will show empty with the low fuel light on in my instrument cluster. It goes back and forth for the whole time until the gas tank is empty. It drives me nuts. The only way I can be sure of how much fuel I have is to set my trip odometer. When 300 miles are traveled, it's time to buy gas. What a pain in the butt. What do I need to look at or replace to fix this annoying problem? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Check the ground strap from the fuel pump wiring to the frame. Otherwise, sounds like a bad fuel sender. Check the wires all the way from the tank to the front for chafing.
