Thread: Fuel Gauge?

    My fuel gauge go's nuts every now and then. Anyody with any advice?

    Yes. I've had the same problem with mine, the dealer told me that when you run the fuel pumps low on fuel that they either burn the pums out, short the sending unit out. my guess would be your sending unit is on the verge of going out.

    Correct me if im wrong but isn't the pump and sending one piece??

    I wouldn't worry to much about it, mine lies to me at times as well. Now if it tells you the tank is empty and you just filled it up, then I would be worried. Means you got something wrong with the fuel sending unit, or the cluster itself may have to be replaced.

    Check that the ground wire at the tank isn't broken. Also follow the wire from the tank to the front of the truck and check for chaffing. Fuel pump/gauge sending unit is about $400 new so I would exhaust all options before replacing it with a new one.
