For my first post here I need some help with something. My wife's truck is a '96 Silverado and the headlights just aren't bright enough to suit her. I'm intending to add a system like the Painless relay advertised and sold by Summit,,, But before i do I figured I'd ask if there's another way to achieve this without buying a premade harness. Anyone have a link or suggestions??

    From the Summit catalog:

"When you switch on the high beams on your Chevy or GMC truck, the low beams go off. With this Painless Wiring relay, you can have all four lights on at once. This increases the intensity and improves the spread pattern of your lights. Easy 10 minute installation. A 30 amp relay, color coded wiring, 30 amp circuit breaker, and instructions are included. Works for any 4 headlight system."

I did this to my 99 tahoe. Didnt csot me a thing. I work for A Chev. dealer and have lots of stuff laying around. All you need is a relay you can get from a auto parts store, four spade connectors and some wire. The relay will have five terminals on it. You will need to us #85,86,30,87. When you look under the hood next to the under hood fues box the foward lamp harness is attached to the left inner fender. Open the harness and looki for the tan and light green wires. The tan wire is the lo beam wire, and the light green is the hige beam wire. Strip back about 1/2 inch of insulation on both wires. Solder a peice of wire to both about a foot long. Attach the peice from the high beam wire to terminal #86 on the relay.Attach the one from the low beam wire to terminal #87. in the under hood box there are two studs that have 30 amp maxifuses, the are labled stud a and b. Attach a wire to one of the studs and attach the other end of the wire to terminal #30 on the relay. Be shure to remove the fuse before you start. Then find a good ground, the inside of the fender is ok,ands attach a wire to it. The other vend of the wire needs to be attached to terminal #85 on the relay.

On the new trucks 99-02 you can add one wire to the under hood fuse block and attach it to a good ground and all four lamps will come on with the high beams. On 03-05 all you need to do is install a diode between the the high and low beam request wires at the bcm.

Going to do this tomorrow. Added SilverStar light bulbs and now gonna add THE PUNISHER! If you've never had all four headlights on when you turn the brights on you really don't know what you're missing.

Also, my headlight lenses were quite yellow so rather than buy new ones I just broke out the paint polishing compound and the buffer and polished them up. I also polished the tail light lenses and they look like new.

sand them with 1000 grit, 1500 grit and then buff and polish to a lustre. I used polishing compound from McGuires.
