Thread: bumper paint

  1. #1
I have my bumper painted the color of my truck. Its the top black pad and the bottom gray part. Its been painted for about 1 year, and its already starting to peel from some parts. Is their anyway to keep the paint from chipping off? Other then painting it again?

yeah, 3M makes some clear adhesive backed vinyl that you can apply over it.

Im in the body shop business. the 3m stuff is usually just a temporary fix. Once it starts to peel that means that most likely whoever painted it the first time did not get a good scratch on the pumper, shitty prep work. It always going to peel and get worse unless you get it repainted properly. How close are you to waco? I could get it done in a day, i would even do it on a saturday for you.

I'm pretty far from waco, i live in the RGV. I'm not the only one with this problem where i live, most of the people that have their bumpers painted also have this problem. Maybe its the super hot weather? Anyways where can i get that 3m stuff? I'll probably paint it again cause i have to paint one side of my truck.

You may be able to find it online or it is available from auto paint stores.

If your bumber is plastic or fiberglass.. be sure that they people who paint it spray it with a plastic adhesive. or it wont stick to the bumper. Also they need to add flex additive to the clear so that is has room to move and bend. Other than that it must be shitty prep work. If I can helf let me know.

Thanks for all the help guys, I think i'll try the 3m stuff for a while then paint it again and make sure they paint it right. This question is very off topic, but is their a major difference with nelson's tune being a mail in or a local tune. I was thinking about getting a mail tune, then maybe later go to nelson's shop to dyno the truck and all of that good stuff.

Get the tune via mail order. Drive it for a week and determine how you like it. Return your original PCM. If anything does not meet your needs, you can put your stock PCM back in until Allen sends you a new tune. You should not have any problems with his tune on your truck.
