    can you powdercoat

    just wondering if you can powdercoat factory chrome rims.
    ive got the 20 inch gm rims. i want them black.

    im sorry i couldnt use search or google. im in the middle of the ocean and it takes me forever to even get on here. thanks for the help.

    i didnt know if the chrome plating would effect the powder coating??

    Sorry, I guess I shoulda mentioned sandblasting. Even if they were painted or polished you want to sandblast them first.

    How much do you think it would cost to get them powdercoated ? I was thinking about doing the same thing ?

    my blazers 2 wheels were chrome then PC'd

    the chrome was flaky when i first had them done. the shop sandblasted them, i drove them for a winter and the spring i had to have them redone. again looked good after the blasted then coated them. another winter goes by and they do the same shit. the salt the use must eat away at hte PC or that fact the chrome and the powder dont agree with eachother.

    id say if you stay away from salt and if the chrome is good shape then yoru set

    I have seen a local shop PC chrome. They do it a lot on bumpers, and grills. And I asked them if they blast them and they said usually no. They said it was all in how they are done, including the baking ect. Personally... I would sand blast them, then dip them in some sort of solvent or cleaner. I know the chroming process may leave a chemical residue on the metal even if chrome layer is gone. Just my 2 cents.
