The 1/4 Mile Distance
Whether you're into cars or not, you've probably heard of 1/4 mile sprints, called drag racing. Have you ever wondered why it is a 1/4 mile and not exactly a mile or a kilometer? Did you consider that factor before buying?

Previously, all cities in the United States were built according to the same standard: the length of each block was 1/8 of a mile. This standard came about because street races were conducted from traffic light to traffic light, which in turn were set up at intersections every two blocks, that is, at 1/4-mile intervals. I sometimes make quarter-mile time comparisons at one service, and when I pick up a car for my client, I consider that factor. Fast acceleration and speed are important to many average motorists.
