Here in the St. Louis area we have been very naughty air polluters in the past, so we've been subject to the "Gateway Clean Air Program" since 2000. In addition to jacking up the MTBE concentrations and stripping out even more of the helpful polymers in our fuel, emissions testing has become much more strict. Check out the web site, you may find it interesting:

A new policy this year is OBDII pass/fail testing for all applicable 1996 and up vehicles. No more probe in the tail pipe. What kind information would they be looking at? Is the anything in a after-market PCM tune that would throw a red flag?

Just to be fair, it has helped our air quality. The bitch is that you still have to make a trip to a local "shop" for mechanical inspection. So every other year there's an appointment with an inspector, a trip to emissions testing and a visit to the DMV. Plus, the emissions test runs $24, and that's in addition to the cost of the mechanical inspection Along with license renewal fees, it's more than $75 to get a renewed plate sticker.

They have been testing the OBDII here for a couple years now, but ours is only $10.

old news. they've been doing that here for about 5 years. aftermarket computer shouldnt set it off. as long as your vehicle dosent throw any codes your all good. you could have gutted cats and get away with it...and those prices are CHEAP!!!! i think my inspection sticker is 40 and the other sticker is somewhere around 50 here in houston TX.

Missouri is always behind the curve, so this ODBII testing is a new thing for us.

That's good info on how this is related to mods and tuned PCM. No codes = Pass. That's cool. Do they put you on a dyne and run it while doing the OBDII scan?

So I'll stop whining and see the up side of this

    Thanks.

They don't run them at all here, just hook up the gas cap to check some thing and hook up to the OBDII port in the cab.

no they dont dyno it. they just check the gas cap pressure, then plug it into a computer and start it up for a few seconds. its really quick and pain free

Hell on mine they just pop the hood and the boys sit around and google it for 10 minuets, then they slap on a sticker and say that will be $12.50.

Sounds like the inspections when I lived in Rolla MO back in the 80's. Except I didn't have a trick setup to look at, they just slapped the sticker on my 77' Ford LTD

Yeah, I just got my truck back in march, and I had to get the emissions "checked" before i could get the tags, and all they did was hook up the computer. I was really quite pissed because they still charged me the $20, and plugging into the computer really takes all of their work out of it.
