    Tune and PCM ??

I have a 96 chevy truck. I talk to a local guy about converting my truck over to a LS motor. My ? Was we have emissions here in Houston and with my truck being a OBD2 truck he said that I will have problems with writing the PCM with my vin. Is this true? Before I buy a motor and PCM I need to know what to do or the right computer to get. Also who is the best at doing it and to get a wiring kit from?

One more thing what oil pan do I need to get to fit the motor so I will not have problems installing the motor

    Thanks for the replys

with any of the public hardware/software out, you won't be able to write the '96 vin to the newer pcm.
that shouldn't stop you from doing the swap though, check into local regulations and see what it takes to do a conversion while keeping all the emission stuff from the newer truck.
more than likely, no tech inspector is even going to realize you did a swap as long as it looks close to stock, no headers and quiet.

i know you can legally perform a conversion with a newer engine into an older truck, i just haven't looked into the details.

Just talked to the guy that's been doing my inspections for 10+ years and he said it will be ok the vin don't have to match the truck.. So now the fun starts...

    Thanks for the replys
