    Tune and emissions inspection..

I know the tunes are considered "off road" so will I have to worry about passing the emissions part of inspection? Also, will a cat delete (with retune) make it fail inspection if no SES light comes on and it physically looks like they are still there? I know it will produce more pollutants but will it be detected by the inspection machine?

Actually, I've done some testing, specially on an STS turbo with pump and 42's, granted a while back, but it passed with flying colors and was cleaner than the stock tune/setup.

No worries, unless you go crazy with the mods.

No problem with removing the cats being removed either.

...unless the inspector looks under the truck and sees no cats.

Well my plan (if anything) was to just gut the converters out so it still looks like they are there. I had an old 1994 like that with no problems but I don't want to screw up and have to buy new converters if it will cause it to fail inspection. I am just thinking that with over 140,000 miles, it wouldn't be surprising if they start having problems soon. My W2 is FINALLY supposed to be here in a few days, I hope it leaves time for the tune sale.

You need a friend in Dallas or Tarrant County.

I live in Johnson county and have a friend who does inspections at the Ford dealership, but I doubt he could help me much if it fails emissions. He could overlook my missing cats but aren't they supposed to burn and remove certain pollutants that the inspection equipment is meant to detect?

They can tune it to where it makes more power and still passes the sniffer. Then again, with a 4.3 I might just get a tune and leave the cats on there.....but I'm old and don't like the stink. LOL

Yeah the 94 did really smell after I gutted the converter, but it was better than spending all my money on a new one. It was a decent high school truck though. I'm thinking I'll just get the tune and leave the cats alone until they start giving problems, then they're gone.
