I have asked this question a couple other places and never really got what I was looking for, so I thought instead of piddlin' around I would go straight to the source.

Allen, how would a tune from you via mail, compare to a dyno tune for my truck. The reasons I ask are as follows.

    1) I'm not in texas, where it seems all the freaking good, known tuners are.

    2) I am switching between a local dyno tune and your PCM tune. Your reputation is second to none, but I keep thinking that more can be had from a dyno tune.

    3) A dyno tune is probably $$ to update, while your updates are shipping costs, right?

I dunno, I freaking walk myselves in circles on this. I know you guys with Allen's tune, 02denali etc, have had awesome tunes, but you have also had the ability to see allen, making me even more jealous everytime I read the board.

I'd like to hear your opinion on it, Allen, as you seem like a straightforward guy that gives a pretty fair comparison on products, your own included.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

hey buddy a dyno tune is great for true numbers. but it doesnt compare to real world driving. allen can get real close by comparing files that he has. he will get it real close. if it isnt right he will send you another one. a dyno tune is good but you will still have to drive it around to get 98it all down right. he has ent pcm's everywhere and all have been satisfied.

i am not near allen either and we frequently email back and forth changes to my tune when i change something. he will keep at it untill you are satisfied with the results.
I had a chance to go to MTI here in Houston and have Jason tune it for $200., but instead I opted for Allen, yeah it was a little more expensive, but I like the fact that he tunes for the real world driving instead of most HP from a dyno.
the HP from a dyno aint gonna help much if you take it off of the dyno and it doesnt run good around the city. 99% sure your gonna have to make some adjustments after you get the truck off.
but hey what do i know he only knock off about 6/10 of a sec for me...
and the computer is still learning.
just remember once you pay you dont have to pay again to get updates. or to change anything. its a one time fee. this was probably the deciding factor for me when i chose Allen.

I am not close to Allen and bought LS1edit so I could have it. Sent Allen my file he made all the changes to the program and sent it back and forth a couple of times. He did all the changes I used a dyno to adjust the air fuel only. All truck and condictions are differant and mods so that was the only thing I needed to do after Allen got done. After air fuel adjusted to a very close to a flat line at about 12.9 -13 gain was min. from his tune. No more lean condiction.

I also thought about edit, but paying for Edit and the tune is a little outside of my range.

Yes, the only thing the customer is liable for is buying his own tires after the tune, hehehe, and shipping costs.

Also, I'm not responsible for speeding tickets, exhibition of acceleration, or you going to jail for going over 100mph, lol.
    jk

btw guys, thanks for compliments, and I can't wait to hang out saturday at the dyno,

    later,

Don't forget, you can't loose when buying a tune from me, if you don't like it, send it back and I'll return your money. I'll even give you a little bit of grace period to try it out.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't doubt I will be impressed with the tune. I am just trying to figure out if I would get a more comprehensive tune at a dyno. But the guys above bring up a good point on tuning on a dyno.

If I get Edit, does it have the data logging capabilities, or do I need to throwdown for autotap too? Basically, I am trying to figure out how I can get you the information that you would normally get when riding along, it seems that will yeild the best tune.

Thanks for bearing with me guys.

Edit doesn't datalog so you would need both and two different cables you have to swap back and forth, right Allen?

Ya sure do. It would be nice to have a 2 in 1 cable, but I'll keep dreaming.

A dyno would exactly what you're looking for if your looking for max power, then have someone street tune it to make sure you have KR and shifting down. They kind of go hand in hand, but if I had my choice, I would ditch the dyno. Who cares how much hp the dyno tells you, can you whoop ass on the street is the question, lol.
Don't get me wrong, my dyno is scheduled to be here in April, and I'll still test the trucks on the street , after the dyno tune is done.
If you want a tune from me and want everything to be exact, you'll have to get some kind of scanning software. Then we'll get it perfect. if you buy edit, it makes it a little easier, we don't have to send pcms back and forth,

    thanks,

    allen

it makes it a hell of alot easier if you dont have to yank your pcm everytime allen changes something.
