    new motor with old tune...

about to be finished with the ls1 install. i bought a used nelson harness and pcm. the guy i bought the pcm from says it and the harness were on a 2000 camaro ss a4. my truck will have the old th350. the motor came from a buddy of mine with a 2000 ss m6.

my question is, will the truck start and run with whatever tune is already on the PCM? how close does it need to be to even start? i know nothing about the motor the pcm and harness came from, other than 2000 ls1 a4.

i plan on having it custom tuned asap, but was wondering if i will at least be able to start it and make sure there isnt anything major wrong with it.....and i really just want to hear it asap

    thanks guys,

Yes, it will start if both engines are a 2000 LS1, actually, any 99-2002 LS1.
The trans shouldn't make a difference.

The PCM may set some transmission codes.

As long as the engines have the same injectors, intake, tb, etc, it'll run just fine. Be sure you have 55-58psi fuel pressure.

thanks man..it will start, how will it run? assuming the motors have the same injectors, tb, etc.? they will not have the same cam, the cam it has is small, 224/224 551/551. not sure of the cam that was in the car the pcm came from.

if it does throw codes, will the pcm allow the engine to run? and how safe is it?

my main issue now is getting the truck somewhere to have a tune done. i dont have a trailer, but can find one, but would like to know if it would be safe to drive the truck 30-45 miles to have the tune done.

    again, thanks,
