    Fuel pressure,compression questions?

I am new to the LS engine.I just bought a 87 c10 with a 5.3 (I hope) and a 4l60 trans.I drove it home 70 miles and it quit on me numerous times. It would always start back up and go a little ways and quit again.
When I got it home I checked the fuel pressure at the rail and it was 42psi at idle. With that not being enough pressure I pulled the original fuel tank and it had a Carter (I forgot the model number) in tank pump.
I installed a new ac delco pump put everything back together. Now with new pump I have 47psi with the vaccumn line on the regulator when I pull the vaccumn line off rail pressure goes to 56psi.Does this mean the regulator is bad?
I checked the compression and got this:
    #1 cylinder 155 psi
    #2 167
    #3 174
    4 170
    5 175
    6 175
    7 145
    8 140

    Is these pressures look ok?

After learning how fuel pressure works I don't believe it is the regulator.
