    1994 4L80E Question

Truck is a 1994 K2500. I'm doing research on an ls swap. I'm planning on getting an LS3 crate engine complete with ECMand wiring harness. I want to use the 4L80E that came in the truck. What would control the transmission in this setup? Can the ECM that comes with the engine do it?

    Thanks

you would need to add a tcm to control the transmission

Ok. That makes since. I assume the transmission in the 94's were controlled by the ecm and not a separate tcm like they are in later years.

    Thanks

That's correct. The 94 controller is actually a PCM not an ECM. It controls the power train, not just the engine. There are several standalone TCMs for the 80e on the market. TCI, GMPP and quite a few others.

If I remember correctly sloppy mechanics also had a write up for using an 0411 PCM as a stand alone transmission controller, not sure if that would be helpful in this case or not.
