    LQ4 6.0 swap questions

Ok, so I am starting this process backwards. I have been offered an 06 6.0L out of a K2500. I am currently looking for a GMT400 truck to drop it in.

The heart recipient must be 4x4, preferably a 2500 or 3500 but a 1500 would be ok if t was a 3 door.

Does it matter what truck I swap into year wise as far as compatability? I dont have a harness (its a low mile Dealer takeout) and i have a 96 built 4l80 to use in case i get a 1500.

I know its not just drop in but some advice would be nice.

Found 2 94 K2500's one long bed HD one short bed LD both w/ NV4500's. This will be a DD/work truck when done.

Something with a vortec in it will make the swap much easier. The wiring is pretty simple and the fuel is very easy.

Thanks, I read the 96+ fuel pumps run at higher pressures. So would you advise doing the harness splice/repin or just get the plug and play nelson harness?

Like I said I am just getting a long block pretty much, unclear if I even get the intake manifold or exhaust manifolds. Only reason for being pulled is a retired couple uses it to pull their RV and the trans was getting hot so they just replaced the engine while it was easy (only has 60K on the truck). It will get headers and a TBSS mani if it comes down to it.

I wont be going for high performance right away. Mostly just a reliable work truck until I get some maint done on the 2 Dmax's, then it might get a super charger.

This is pretty much what I want to put it in, long bed k2500 work truck. Would make a pretty good sleeper too.

I guess it all depends on your skill in the garage. I did my own harness doing a combo of rep inning and rewiring with the donor harness. It wasn't hard at all of course a PnP harness will be much easier. I like that my truck looks factory clean and everthing works as it should.

What won't/might not work w/ a built harness. IMO, if I have to buy a harness might as well buy the repinned harness.

Is it easier to keep cruise w/ a nelson harness or diy harness? Otherwise I figure sensors can't be worse than a 12v swap.

I'm not familiar with how a aftermarket harness is set up. If it's just a stand alone harness then you won't have any of the factory stuff working such as gauges and stuff. Better to give Nelson or whom ever a call. Cruise control depends on the type of throttle body you use. Dbw or dbc either way it's not hard to keep. I really prefer the Dbw especially for the cruuse.
